When shooting with a .22 I like to see what I'm aiming at just as well as when I'm using a centerfire rifle. I also seem to shoot at smaller targets with rimfires than I do with centerfires. So I want decent optics on a Rimfire. With my eyes a decent Rimfire scope starts at $100.00.

I have a couple Vari X III's I'm not using. I bet they would be fun on a .22........Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Robert J. Hanlon

Besides joking around, I like Leupold and Nikon scopes.
- Leupold because of experience with them while hunting
- Nikon, slightly expanded reason; for work have used Nikon microscopes. They make really nice microscopes. And, from years of experience with Nikon cameras and lenses; they make excellent camera bodies and lenses.
My brother put a Nikon 2-7 Rimfire scope on a Savage bolt action. That is a really nice setup for the ranges 22lr is typically shot at.
Realize, when you look at any optics, all the manufactures including Leupold and Nikon, have different "levels or grades" of scopes. When you are comparing scopes, be sure to compare the same grade from the various manufacturers
Also keep in mind, there is no replacement for good glass. I have taken pictures, made shots, and found defects on silicon wafers with high grades lens and scopes, that I would not have been able to do with lower or entry grades of glass.
You're putting it on a 22lr, but keep in mind, using a better grade scope, like using a better grade ammo, will give you more enjoyment and ability to hit your target.

^^^^^^^ +1I know there are better, more expensive scopes out there but for around $50 you can pick up a Simmons 22 Magnum Scope 3X9. I liked it so much I bought three of them. For most people shooting a 22 is limited to about 150 yards so you don't need anything more powerful than that. Even a fixed X4 is good enough at that distance.Comment

Spend more and pick up a better optic.
If you're like me, and find yourself putting a firearm away in the safe for awhile, it's nice to have that extra optic and being able to put it to use on something else.
I really should find a nice scope calibrated for .22lr, but having nice optics on everything else I can't push myself to cheap out. Actually looking to pick up an NXS for my .22lrOriginally posted by longrange1my gun shoots better with shiny brass...plus not only does the shiny brass make me look like a pimp at the range if the sun catches it just right it blinds the guy next to me which improves my odds of winning the match.Originally posted by XDJYoFull size. "Depends on what you're using it for" is, indeed, the magical consideration. I shoot bench rest and I use a Leupold Competition 45x45... because you can't hit a 2mm bull if you can't see it.Comment
