Wanted to know what a good power for a .22 rifle would be?

depends on what your going to use the rifle for...lotta guys run 3-9s...3-15s...6-24s and some of the BR guys even more power.
i have a 6-24x50 on my CZ455 and a 3-15x42 on my kidd...it just depends on how well you want to see your target which leads into the quality of the glass...then do you need or want a FFP or SFP scope and last how much money do you want to spend.

I know there are better, more expensive scopes out there but for around $50 you can pick up a Simmons 22 Magnum Scope 3X9. I liked it so much I bought three of them. For most people shooting a 22 is limited to about 150 yards so you don't need anything more powerful than that. Even a fixed X4 is good enough at that distance.

Same. The Simmons works for me and is cheap! 3x9 is good but I know I don't use that much power. I agree that an x4 would be just fine.
It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.

            If it's semi-auto get a fixed power, if it's a bolt get a variable.

I bought a Bushnell pronghorn 3x9x36 and it's a great scope for the price

I will add a lot of folks like very high power scopes on .22's. This is so they can see the bullet holed on paper.

I just ask you to please not be that guy at the indoor range with a 8-32x scope. Shooting at 15 yards.

Haha, no. I'd like to shoot paper around 100 yrds, and the occasional gong out at 200. I use a red dot on my .223 AR.

The rifle is a 10/22 with bull barrel.

For standing, shooting 25, 50, and 100 yards offhand with my CZ 512 and 455, I like 3-9 and maybe 3-12 because they are lighter than the giant scopes.

For my CZ452 I like 8-32 because I usually shoot it off bags.

On my .22, assuming I don't decide to use one of my more expensive target scopes for kicks I really like the fixed power SWFA stuff for bench/target shooting and really like the Weaver 1-3x scope for general purpose stuff... like on my 10/22.

The SWFA have adjustable parallax that goes down to about 25 yards or so which is why I really like them for target use, plus they track well and have really decent glass.

Get a 3x9, and a pair of binoculars to see your holes on paper

You are better off just spending more on the rifle scope in the first place than trying to supplement it with another optic just to see your shots.

Spotting with binoculars is a miserable experience unless its supported by a tripod and has good glass.
