I have a CMMG pencil barrel upper on a New Frontier polymer lower that is around 6 pounds... with a TRS-25 that works fine.

What's the purpose of the optic or scope? If you're going for groups, something with magnification is best. I have a $29.99 Tasco 3x9x32 Walmart special which is great for minute of squirrel accuracy and it hasn't lost zero in 4 years. Round after round I can hit 8" plates at 300 yards with this setup. I even took the scope and rail off my rifle, then screwed them both back on and it was still zeroed.

A 10/22 isn't exactly a tack driver rifle. A good set of irons is pretty equal to a red dot if you're plinking plates. My only complaint about the factory irons is the front sight is really hard to see since it is so small. A red dot will give you a little more accuracy but not much with this type of rifle. I have two 10/22 rifles, one with irons and one with my 3x9.

Red dot? Faster than iron sights. When I shoot i shoot for speed and better myself. Red dots are easier to use and faster than iron sights. PERIOD. The 10/22 out of the box isn't a tack driver... but get a good barrel, free float stock, and decent trigger... and it'll become a moa or lower tack driver.

          Not everything is about accuracy.

I can accurately do a rifleman cadence with open(Tech Sights) sights. Appleseed teaches that.

How fast are you trying to shoot?

I've found the dot covers too much of the target for my tastes, at least for target shooting.

I get sub-moa 1-shot groups everytime I pull the trigger even at 300 yards with a 10/22. I do have a Volquartsen barrel and trigger - state of the art 15 years ago. I guess that's why the bullet drop past 75 yards doesn't effect me. You should try 1-shot groups.

Nikon ProStaff Rimfire, 3-9 x 40mm. Suprisingly bright optics, great reviews. On sale on Amazon for around $100.
^^^^ ++ on the Prostaff. I like the BCD for hold over. Also budget for a better rail mount the the factory supplied. Several suppliers of 10/22 scope rails.

Don't know much about the Scope. But I used this 'see though scope ring' in my 10/22 Takedown , so I can switch from optic to iron sight just for fun and to test out my vision.
