While I really like the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire, it didn't work well on my Appleseed 10/22 Takedown rifle. The problems were:
    • When used with a tensioned sling, the takedown joint flexes and throws the zero off. (even when fully tightened)
    • The range of eye relief barely encompasses both prone and standing positions.
    • I had to remove the scope to store it in the bag.

I switched to an AIM 2-7x40 "scout" scope mounted on the barrel rather than on the receiver. It made a dramatic improvement. All of the zeroing problems have gone away, it has a wide range of eye relief for all positions, and it fits the bag. The 1022TD mount from Amega was expensive ($120) but the scope was cheap ($50). It is a surprisingly good scope for the price.

My 10/22 TD *finally* shoots like it is supposed to. Now it is time to get the rifleman up to par.

I do want a rimfire scope on a 22 LR if the scope is not AO or Side Focus. Reason being that parallax issues pop up at close range and long range. Rimfire scopes have parallax set at 50 yards instead 100 yards. 50 yard parallax is the right setting for me for a .22 LR.

I'm not a big fan of Vortex scopes(I like their binoculars) but the exception is the Diamondback 2-7x35 Rimfire scope. I think they are a great bang for the buck and have one on a Model 60.

IMHO, the Diamondback and on up the chain is where Vortex stuff is decent. I never had any complaints about my Diamondback 4-12x40 and the Strike Eagle and Viper I have look great. I'm not a fan of the Crossfire's.

Not thing to loose, only 17 buck + shipping (free if you have Prime Acct).
(On the review, one guy wrote he mounted it on the 10-22 Takedown and it fit in the pouch of the factory bag).
JMO, this is not a buy one cry one but buy one keep/throw_away one.

I had a prostaff 4x for years. I ended up with an extra vortex viper 2-7 laying around. put that on there. IMO no need for more than that, maybe 2-8.
            anything bigger its too big.
I have a minox 3-9 BDC on my 22 bolt action. and sometimes I feel its a little too big. they are on sale for $99 on cameralndny
Cabelas has nikon 3-9x40 BDC on sale for 89.99, thats dirt cheap for a good scope.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I had a fixed 6X for years and thought it was perfect. Not as much to mess with either.

                for sure.
I rabbit hunt with my 10/22 so I have it set on 2x in case something pops out.
and if I see rabbit at 100 yards I like to zoom it as usually that far they are still.

I forgot about the Strike Eagle, it is pretty good. And when I said I wasn't a fan I wasn't talking about Razors. Razors are excellent scopes but as a rule don't fit a niche for me.

Crossfire - I've mounted a bunch at work and for my eyes the glass is subpar. In addition the eyebox is so critical above 6 power that I have no use for it.

Viper - The aren't bad scopes, just not my favorite. I've always found other brands in the same price range I liked better. The glass is fine in good light but for my eyes is seriously underwhelming in low light. I also have issues with the eye relief.

Everyone's eyes are different and what doesn't work for some does work for others.

I also have a Razor Mini Red Dot I'm satisfied with.

I sold guns and scopes part time at one of the four really big Cabela's stores for a couple of years and one of the perks was the dealer programs.

Vortex - 60% off MSRP on eight optics a year
Leupold - 60% off MSRP on four
                  Burris - 70% off one
Meopta - Set discounts on each optic, averaged around 60-70 %.

Steiner, Zeiss, Nikon, Swarovski and Bushnell - set discounts for one optic that were way below retail.

Well, you COULD lose time, ammo, effort, and $17, but you will gain frustration and experience.

I have an Aimpoint on mine. You should check out holosun, they are cheaper. I'm a red dot kind of guy.

I'd do Nikon and maybe Mueller. I bought 3 Vortex Optics Crossfire II 3 - 9x40mm on sale for $100/ ea for my .22's and they far exceed any of the others for clarity / quality. I also run a Vortex 2-7 on an AR which is also a top performer.
