Smith&Wesson 22A-1 ?

SW22a Owners,

I am in need of some help. Do any of you have any of the spare Recoil Spacers in your SW22a box? They originally came with 3 and they put them beneath the foam.

The wife's 22a locked up badly in her last Steel Challenge. She was forced to finished the last 2 stages with my pistol. Upon complete breakdown I found that little plastic piece was completely destroyed.

I called S&W this morning and they are sending me out a few, slow boat, for free. Awesome, great! Problem is this weekend is Steel Challenge!

Would anyone of you be willing to send me a spare Recoil by mail (presuming it would arrive before Sunday here in Santa Cruz)?

I would be happy to send you one of the new ones coming from S&W next week. I would be willing to make it worth your time. That way your not out anything.

Possible Solution #2:

The SW Rep said I could hack one if I found the dimensions.
Could anyone here get me the dimensions of the spacer?
length/width/thickness is what I need.
I cannot find this information online.

Thank you. So does Amazon, Ebay and the like. Not one of them will get to me in time for this weekends competition. I am not paying $20 for overnight freight for a $1 part.

Finding them is not the issue. Hence the CalGuns ask.

Scoured the interwebz for the dimensions of the Recoil Spacer, complete waste of time. Don't do it.

Called back to S&W Customer Service and asked for the same guy (Tom) who sent me out the spacers for free. He went and grabbed one and gave me the measurements. Thank you TOM!

1/2 x 7/16 x 1/16 and the hole is 1/8

Took me a few minutes to find some plastic that was the right thickness and 10 minutes later I had a new Recoil Spacer. Pistol is back together and passed the load, cycle, eject test with snap caps. Will report how the home made spacer works at Steel Challenge this weekend.

Crud, wish I saw this earlier. I will check my box tonight, honestly didn't even know they came with spares. If I find it I will make arrangement's if still needed.

Sorry for the last min response. HAHA> Good luck this weekend!

Just bought one here on Calguns. Took it to the range last night the day after pickup. 3 magazines in I had an out of battery discharge. The entire rim blew off the cartridge. Bullet cleared the barrel, chamber had some powder and scuff marks. My thumb caught a bit of it but nothing significant. Cartridge came out of the chamber without too much effort. Everything looks OK- going to double check function/extraction/headspace as best I can later on after tearing it down. Ammo was a 100rd sleeve of CCI mini mags.

Did you take a picture of the brass?

It is the most reliable round out of the wife's pistol for sure. That being said, the last 2k rounds of CCI Mini Mags she's shot have been the dirtiest batch that I can remember, ever.

Pictures of the casing. It came out of the breach with a cleaning rod. Couldn't find the rim and bottom.

Culprit was recoil spring and bushing- it prevented the gun from reaching 100% lockup on the return trip, leaving part of the brass unsupported. Gun is good to go with another 200 down the pipe, it seems to love federal automatch surprisingly.
