    I have a S&W 22A and a Ruger SR22

The 22A is very accurate and light weight, however the slide location under the rear sights makes it very uncomfortable to charge.

The Buckmark is a wonderful pistol. The SR22 is fun and great for new shooters, I would not compete with it on any level but its a great plinker.

If you are looking for a 22LR target just for plinking fun at the rimfire range at Sacramento valley shooting center, you should get the Buckmark. I have a buckmark with a cheap Walther red dot and and it is good enough for me to hit 6" steel target at 50 yards.

Bite the (rimfire) bullet and buy a Model 41. They are non roster Olympic exempt and damn fine guns. I liked mine so much, I sold my Ruger MKIIs and bought a 2nd 41.

I'm partial to the Ruger MK II/III series, but the Buckmark is a fine pistol also.

Buckmark: I shot it more accurately than my Rugers. Very nice balance. The grips were more comfortable than my Rugers. Ate all kinds of ammo. Two things that I didn't like: the safety and slide stop got in the way of my shooting grip. The take down screw would loosen up after about 150 rounds so had to bring a hex key with me to the range to tighten it.

Ruger MK II/III: MKIII has a loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect. MK II doesn't. Easy to shoot accurately. Ate all kinds of ammo. Comfortable to shoot - no safety or slide stop in the way. People complain about the difficulty of taking it down. It's not that bad after watching Youtube videos and doing it 2-3 times. Can just take the bolt out and use a bore snake to clean the barrel.

The Buckmark that I had and sold.

I've shot that couple of times at the range and they're a fine pistol. What barrel length did you get? Any problems with it being finicky with ammo?

Model 41 is simple the best target 22 I've ever shot. But if you are looking to customize one, get a buckmark. You don't have to dros barrel upgrades like the rugers. Tactical solutions bull barrels are incredibly lightweight and accurate.

A ruger 22/45 with light upgrades. Keep it clean and it runs perfect up to around 500 rounds. Cant really find them in California anymore though.

Too bad the Rugers are off list now, some available used. Browning a good substitute. Occasionally see a Beretta 87 target. Haven't seen a Smith 22A or 41 for a while.

As was posted, I sold my Ruger Mk II and III pistols to help fund a Model 41. I'm not a bullseye target shooter, but can print those all day long from 20 yards away with it. Not fussy with ammo either, but it does do it's best with a few Eley selections.

Anything, especially the target guns from High-Standard, are very accurate, a few are Olympic grade. Mitchell Firearms produced them with mixed results after High Standard shut down production. An ex-HS engineer began producing copies with excellent quality and accuracy. He was sued by Mitchell, changed the name to one of three, in this case "Fort Worth Firearms". An LGS I frequented in Forth Worth sold them...beautiful workmanship and super accurate.

My most accurate pistol is a Fred Kart conversion on top of a Eessex frame.

Plenty accurate for casual shooting. Not as finicky as my browning buckmark.

I own a 22/45 ,been shooting it for the past 16 years I put about 2,000 rounds of bulk 22 through it per year. My kids used to pound the ammo through it. A few weeks ago I put a new Volquartson extractor because the stock one wore out. I like the pistol Last Tuesday one of my friends brought a new Buck Mark to the range. We put a 550 round box of ammo. The grip is nicer, the trigger is way nicer and it is accurate as the Ruger. If I were to buy a 22 pistol it would be a Buck Mark over a Ruger. would I sell my Ruger noooooo, You can spend more for a fancier pistol though.

Both the 5-1/2 and the 7"... I prefer the 7" and no mine are not finicky with ammo , but it shoots best with Wolf Match Target.

Something else to consider- the Buckmark grip angle is similar to the 1911 and many other guns, Browning and otherwise. The Ruger MKxx is not, although the 22/45 is. You may want to see where it points naturally in your hands, if you're used to other guns. Buckmark triggers can typically easily be modded for a great pull (simple 5-minute spring reversal). And mine eat anything, then spit them out with extreme accuracy, better than any other revolver (incl S&W 617) or semi I've tried.
