I can only comment on the information I found when asking the same question a couple of months back. It appeared to me that the "Performance Center" model was really more of a styling exercise, as opposed to any real functional differences. Pic rail mounted on the barrel, skeletonized front sight, different stocks.

Based on this and for the price difference I went with the standard model 41/5.5" barrel. I didn't need that extra $300 worth of cachet.

question still remains, what specifically is the difference. Does anyone know of something at the S&W site that says? I could not find it.

Anyone know what the dif is? and is it worth it?
Performance Center has hand tuned trigger action and fitting. For a couple of hundred dollars, it's worth it when it comes time to resell it.

The standard Mod. 41 is better looking. If you want to install a rail optic, then the PC is one way to go, the other is a Clark custom barrel.
I own the standard Model. Haven't shot it in years. I'm sure it was hand tuned by someone at the factory.

The PC models are taken off the line if they show better performance in test firing, than worked a bit more to become PC guns...at least that's how SW explained it to me on a 627 I had.

Thank's y'all for keepin up the comments. I have decided to go with a .177 pellet air gun, Olympic target 10 meter type for now to avoid the .22 ammo altogether. $0.01 cents per shot got me interested and this class of air gun will really challenge and hone anyone's abilities.
Still have a 41 on my wish list though. even though it may have moved down a bit. They really are beauties.

So the standard Mod.41's are test fired, and the best ones are sent to the PC where the barrel gets removed and a different one with a rail and different sights is installed. The stocks are replaced, and the slide is sent to be engraved and the action is PC tuned?
                            I doubt that.

It's pretty apparent you don't know what your talking about. PC guns are built from the ground up. Parts are fitted and tuned. It's not some random grab from parts bins slapping something together.

All model 41's used to be built in Maine or somewhere not even the regular factory. The standard 41 supposedly already comes with a hand honed crisp trigger 2.75-3.25.
as far as the Performance center goes , their guns have a different barrel with a rail, grips and the logo But believe me , and I love S/W ,but the Performance Center ain't what it used to be. The last couple "PC" guns I have bought were junk, and no customer service /response from the P/C. Like the 986 has terrible accuracy, because the cylinder is chambered for 9X21 not 9X19 as it is sold as a 9mm. "When contacted" OH we havent heard that complaint or we dont do that anymore" now its just a non-standard catalog gun with a P/C logo. Nothing like the guns made in the 1990's - early 2000s'. My .02 Calreb
