    Will subsonic .22 cycle a 10/22?

I was about to buy an air gun for the squirrels on my farm but thought 22 sub in would be a good option. It's safe and legal to shoot there but I wanted a quieter option.

    I Will subsonic cycle a 10/22?

If it won't can I change the guide rod spring to make it work?

What's your favorite .22 subsonic ammo?

Should I just buy an gammo?

No Subsonic .22 will not cycle a 10/22

get a bolt .22 (then you can shoot any 22, CB caps, short, snake and LR)

    I like the CCI quite.
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

CCI quiets will not cycle a 10/22. But, will not jam the gun so just cycle by hand. I have done this, works fine. I have shot CCI quiets using a bolt action. No louder than an air gun.
You might consider getting a low cost 22LR bolt (Savage or Marlin). About the same cost as Gammo air and a lot more punch with CCI quiets (40gr/750fps)

Why buy a bolt? Load up a magazine of subs in the 10/22m, and manually cycle the bolt. Way faster than a bolt action.

YES. SOME subsonic .22lr will cycle in most 10-22s. The only way to know for sure is to try a few different types in your rifle.

I tried the CCI quiets in my buck mark. Like others said, they will not cycle semi auto but they also don't jam basically turning your 10/22 into a bolt action rifle. no biggie.

All of these are subsonic rounds that will cycle in most 10-22s:

as well as most other "match" ammo.

Rem sub 22 cycles my 1911 conversion, but not Cci or Winchester.

A couple weeks back took my sister and her son to USI to shoot my 10/22's and the range only had CCI subs. The gentleman warned me they won't cycle but 200 rounds and one fte because like 1 in about 500 rounds likes to get stuck iin my VA or GO bull barrel....seems very random and not bullet related so yes they can and will cycle in a 10/22

Do not ever try and question auto correct.

As far as the subs i agree with the get a cheap bolt action crowd.

Bone stock 1022 won't cycle your average subsonic 22 ammo. Mine didn't.
Unless you're dedicated to getting your 1022 to run them you'll have to do more than use a lighter spring.

I have a dedicated 1022 that I reworked to cycle Aguila SSS 60 gr. subsonic ammo.
Lots of personal R&D plus cursing seemed to help a lot too.
                            Lightened the bolt
Radiused the rear of the bolt
Replaced charging handle with SS polished unit
Polished the bolt and it's receiver raceway
Replaced the recoil spring with the lightest I could find
Replaced barrel with 1/9 twist rate heavy

Cycles higher powered 22LR fine too. If I shoot lots of HP-22LR I switch recoil spring to standard powered OEM Ruger unit.
Testing on other subsonic ammo continues...
So you can try this or just do what others have suggested and manually cycle the bolt.

Virtually all target and match ammo, as well as most standard velocity ammo is subsonic (less than 1100 fps at sea level), so all of those that I've shot cycle perfectly, but my bolt is radiused. Really low velocity stuff (<1000 fps) won't cycle. I think some people can get CCI quiet to cycle with the lighter Kidd recoil spring.
