Aim Point Pro

Was looking around at aimpoints and came across the PRO. for $400 I really like that price point, especially for an Aimpoint! but is it as durable as the more "high end" aim points. I've seen the videos of them being shot with bird shot, dropped from helicopters etc... I know it doesn't have as good of battery life. I was looking at ACOGs/Browes but decided it would not be best for my situation (shooting 50-150/200 yards). Then started looking at EOtechs, I like the reticle of them instead of the single dot of the aimpoint, but you cannot beat that durability and battery life, so it is something I can live with I guess lol I

So any comments on the durability of the PRO?

No it is not as durable as the military aimpoints.

Is it good enough for you, yes.

Will you ever break it, seriously doubt it.

Military Aimpoints have extruded aluminum housings that can handle just about anything... the Pro does not, but it's still very tough. You'd have to actively try to destroy one to do so... your average plinking sessions would never hurt it.

As for an Eotech durability vs a Military Aimpoint, it's no contest, the Aimpoint wins easily... i still prefer Eotechs for short range use because of the holographic reticle and how quick it is to acquire it.

They are GTG... As said above. It's just a dumbed down version and you pay a little less for a quality product.

The Aimpoint PRO was originally sold only to LE departments at a lower cost compared to the other Aimpoints. I doubt you'll abuse it any more than LE officers do.

I have been researching optics for the past month trying to decide what I wanted, and you will not go wrong with the aim point pro. I was going to get an aim point pro but decided on a trijicon acog Becuase I needed magnification, but I have another rifle that I will be buying a a point pro for next week, or a aimpoint compm4.

I made a thread looking for a used aimpoint and found them on here from $300 used I $350 new. I won't be able to buy one until next week because I just bought a acog, so if you want the deal pm me. I'm sure they would sell them to you for the same price.

There is a eBay seller that sells aimpoint compm4's for $300-400 if you wanted the military optic.

Oh and if you're going to be shooting 100+ yards; I highly recommend staying away from the eotech. I personally have never owned one, but all the reviews I've read say that the reticle is too big compaired to ai points 2moa red dot, and that it's a lot harder to see your target at 100+ yards. I havnt read one single review that puts eotech ahead of aimpoint.

Eotech dot is 1 moa center. Aimpoint is 2moa. Lol.

All EOTechs have a 1MOA center reticle. A few don't have the 65MOA circle around it.

I've used both and now own an Eotech, I can tell you that nothing is faster than an Eotech on target acquisition at close range. Anything beyond 100 yards it's gonna come down to your eyesight. Really depends on what your using it for. I've never had an issue with my Eotech but then again I've never used it for anything past 100 yards. Btw all Eotech models come with a 1 moa center dot, it's whether you want the 65 moa circle or BDC dots.

If the Aimpoint had the 65moa circle over its 2moa dot then it would be the perfect red dot. But I find the Eotech reticules much easier for me to acquire targets even to far distances beyond 200yds...

Well, if it's on the internet it must be true...

Untill I actually bought an Eotech, I use to think the same thing. Fact is, I shoot faster and more accurately from close range to 200 yards with an Eotech. There's some things that make the Eotech superior to an Aimpont, and vice versa. Actually trying one may change your mind, it certainly did mine.
And to the OP, I own an Aimpoint Pro, only criticism I have was I didn't like the clunky knob on the mount, I've had it catch on things occasionally. Changed it out for a lighter weight, streamliined mount.
Oh, and it's harder to see a small target at 200 yards with a 2moa dot than the Eotech's 1moa dot.

I have shot both and personally prefer the aimpoint. The eotech with the 65 MOA circle is too much clutter for me when I get out to 100. Like others have said its great for up close and personal but so is the aimpoint. I am just as fast with the aimpoint as the eotech. The big thing for me was the battery life. The PRO has a 30,000 hour life which basically equates to 3 years without shutting it off. I would say the PRO is more durable as well. I have seen a lot of abuse with the PRO and it keeps on ticking.

I highly recommend staying away from the eotech. I personally have never owned one
