    Nikon Warning!! JUNK JUNK JUNK

This is a warning to anyone looking for a rifle scope.
Here is the short story.. I've bought a Nikon scope (Slughunter), had to send it back to dealer for replacement... Mounted second scope, seemed ok at first then discovered it was defective too.

Called Nikon, ended up in their email system and the Nikon repair guy wrote me this email: (copied and pasted)
Primarily, Nikon Prostaff and Slughhunter Riflescopes are set for precise Hand-turn 1/4-inch Click Adjustments at 100 yards, not 50. This may be where your problem lies, in this misunderstanding.

At 100 yards, four clicks would equal 1 inch of adjustment, thus, if you need to adjust 4.5 inches (the median of the numbers you provided) that would correlate to 4.5x4=18 clicks of adjustment at 100 yards.
If you need to make the same amount of adjustment at 50 yards, the values of the adjustment actually double to 1/2" per click. This means that to make 4.5 inches of adjustment at 50 yards, you would only need to make 4.5x2= 9 clicks of adjustment, in either windage or elevation.

Can you believe this garbage? These guys don't even understand basic MOA adjustments.

    So here's the kicker....
My buddy bought a Nikon scope for his muzzle loader also. He had to send the scope back three times to get them to fix it.
Then he discovered his Nikon range finder was also defective and had to send that back too.

I know that in the past, Nikon has been known for quality but it would seem something has happened. Google it and you'll see people complaining about Nikon quality problems everywhere.

    Garbage!

Hello Leupold, I'd like to place an order please...

First off, what was the problem with these two scopes that you are complaining about? A simple "I had to send two scopes to them because there were defective" is not enough. At least tell us what the problem was.

Regarding the math...ok...so the guys math might have been screwed up (maybe he had some bad Chinese food for lunch or something and mistyped the conversion) but you don't need to blast on a company like this without even giving up the whole story.

To me, it sounds like they replaced a perfectly good scope with another perfectly good scope and you don't know how to use it.

Unless you tell us a bit more what else are we supposed to believe?

I've bought 2 Monarch scopes, 1 Prostaff rimfire scope, a Prostaff 3 rangefinder and some Monarch 5 binoculars within the last year. All have worked great with zero problems. I think they provide a great product for the money. Sorry for your bad luck.

I love my Nikon P223 scope. Super clear glass and no issues at all.

I have a couple of Nikon scopes, they appear to be decent glass, much superior to bargain basement brands such as Simmons, etc.

I wouldn't even begin to compare them to top shelf such as Leupold or Ziess, however. Compared to premium brands they are not going to fare well.

For everyday use, my Nikons are quite nice, and very functional.

Yes, please describe the actual problem. I didn't see what the "repair" was that you thought required service.

Ive been shooting with Nikon (all) products for a good amount of time now. I (knock on wood) have never had an issue with an optic or electronics. Everything from scopes mounted on 22's, 12 ga, 300 Win, 450 marlin, 375 H&H, 50 BMG, and everywhere in between to rangefinders and binos even the little monarch red dot. I like Nikon quality..as I do Leupy, NF, the newer Bushnell, PR, S&B, and the Vortex Im taking to Nebraska next week.

Ive had my fair share across the board of optics and deal with all companies. It looks like Nikon replaced one scope and were working on another possible issue. Yes, numbers were confused there....4.5'' at 100 yards would be 18 1/4 clicks....at 50 yards 4.5'' would be 36 clicks (doubled). But hey, to be honest, I wrote the numbers down just now to double check myself.

I do remember from your last thread that you stated the ammunition was faulty. Did you do more tests with this? You said Hornady sent you more?

Also, what are these defects on the scopes?

Murby, I thought the issue was the SST slugs being loose in the shell? I wish you had returned a PM/e-mail that I sent you and perhaps I could have helped you out so that you would be hunting with your shotgun right now. As I did with you, when I come across someone having a problem I do my best to help them work thru it right up to returning the scope if necessary. I am interested in what other problems you may have had with your scopes beside the inital getting on paper. I know the OP Specialist, Trevor, probably has some good information on these scopes. I know yours is the first one in the 4 years I have been doing PR work for Nikon to not work right. I know it may be to late, but if there is anything I can do to help out, let me know ?

I have 4 nikon scopes and red dots.

They always work. I have some higher end stuff on some guns which I like more... but the nikons just work.

Nikon is getting behind the times... not offering mil/mil or moa/moa scopes, but they have quality stuff at their price points I still recommend for people on a lower budget..

So what is the original complaint? Their tech couldnt help you zero? And it's the scopes fault/Nikons techs?

I recently picked up a Prostaff 3-9x40 Rimfire and couldn't be happier with the performance. Holding zero, bright and clear glass, and easy to adjust. No issues whatsoever.

Sorry you're having some kind of problem with yours....

Thanks for all your question's and supporting Nikon Spot Optic's.
