Yup. I have looked through Elcan's... not impressed. Documented POI issues on magnification, heavy, poor quality mount, batteries, high price.

I guess you are only planning to use the rifle on a bi-pod. These things are huge and weigh a couple tons I believe. I which case the RMR on top would be for what???
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

I've spent a few minutes with the VCOG, thanks to it being in the hands of a sponsored shooter and thought it was not good. My initial impressions:
        1. The illumination was not bright enough so it washed out in daylight.
        2. It's heavy and runs on batteries, instead of fiber optic and tritium like their much cheaper and excellent TR24 AccuPoint series.
        3. I didn't like the FFP reticle. They should have just made a 1-6X version of their ACOG TA31 scope. It would have been simplier and more effective IMO.
        4. It's priced at $2K so they're competing with the likes of the Swarovski Z6i and much more expensive than the $1500 Vortex HD 1-6X. I'd recommend folks get the Z6i over the VCOG.

Crap, I just checked the specs against the TA31RCO (which I have on one of the AR's) and you're right. 39.3 oz (w/o the RMR) ~2.5 lbs. vs. 16.3 oz. or 1 lb. with the TA31.

And, that rifle is pretty heavy already.

Guess we should ask Trijicon WTF they were thinking?

You sure? I met up with a guy to buy this and was shocked at how heavy/big it was. It was one of the brightest scopes I've looked through...was easily 2-3 stops brighter than my naked eye at night. But the thing just isn't practical IMO.

For my SCAR17, I use a 3.5x ACOG with BAC .308 reticle on a LaRue mount. I like it quite a bit. I'd rather have greater magnification shooting past 300 yards, but the reality is that I shoot <300 yards at least 90% of my time, so the ACOG works fine.

Not so sure anymore. Currently have a Leupold 3.5-10x50mm rifle scope on the REPR, but was looking for something more dual role. I love my TA31, and (admittedly) didn't research how big and heavy it was. The eye relief on the TA31 sucks, this one is up to 2.7 (from 1.5), and the 6x magnification was appealing.

Will definitely need to see one in person before I buy it.

That's how I'm gonna start out. I really don't wanna spend $2k plus until I have handled all the options.

I am aware if that. I was describing what I like about the acogs in general and surprised that they switched up the platform for the vcog

You may be able to shoot BAC with the other models but the reticle may be a bit small.

Also if memory serves, the TA11E is the model that works best on a SCAR 17S. It has a .308 reticle designed to support BAC.

All the TA11 models support BAC. I use the TA11J dual cross hair in amber on a carbine 308 and it works exceptionally well with both eyes open and precision shots up to around 500 yards are just one wink away. If you need more range than that then you'd be better off with a variable mag scope and something else than a 16" 30 cal...

I went with the TA11 3.5x specifically because of the eye relief required with the 308. The 4x ACOGs are great with the 5.56, but with the .30 cal rounds the muzzle rise overpowers the eye relief really quick especially on a 16". The SCAR17s is one of the least violent 308's, but it still moves around when compared to a 5.56 gas gun.

For what it is worth I was an Aimpoint Micro user for a long time and still have some, but the ACOG just provides a lot more practicality especially when you do have to reach out a ways on occasion and of course the durability is reason enough to own one let alone the lack of having to feed it batteries.

This is what I was thinking. I did get the dual crosshair BAC 3.5 acog. We shall see

Ran one on my 308. TA11(3.5x) has tons of eye relief and the 4x doesnt. The 3.5x is good to about 500yds with good eyes. I have since moved the acog to my 223 and use a NF 3x15 on my 308.

Has anyone heard of this scope company called Leapers? Apparently, they are American-made and they have a 3-9 power scope for about $100. Has many good reviews on Amazon.

I just purchased a Sig 716 .308 and I have a Primary Arms 16 power but I am thinking about putting that on a bolt gun and having a smaller scope for my 716. So anyone know anything about the quality of Leaper's products?
