If I were you, when it's time to buy, go to the sport's store's & look through all of them. If your like most here, you'll use recommendation's here to start the process, you eye will tell you what you want.

I myself did what your doing, then in the end I've got what I think is real nice 3-15x42 HD5 Ziess. And for CQB a very small TRS25 red dot on cant mount...

GOOD LUCK, you will find what you need, take your time, as this is money...

    JUST SAYIN...

Yes, you are correct viewing through the glass can make all the difference depending on how your eye reacts to the clarity and the reticle features. Right now I am leaning towards a Nightforce 2.5-10 x 32.

I have a pretty good deal lined up on it with the NP-R2 reticle with LaRue 1.5 mount and billet cattail handle. Guy used it once and wants $1400.

Weaver glass is uncommonly clear (made in Japan) and with FFP and illumination - at its price-point, its really, REALLY hard to beat!

Sorry if it seems like an infomercial - but after shyteloads of research, these are all exceptional bang for buck scopes... the one competitor left out is Vortex... I have a 1-4x24 that I am relatively happy with (illumination isn't great - sent it in - they said it's fine)... but 24mm glass is what it is (regardless of brand)... According to "reliable" reviews, the 6-24x50 is good... I can tell you first-hand, the 4-16x50 is crap.

              YMMV (not likely though).
Wow, care to back that up with any real evidence?
I think Vortex Viper PST rocks (esp with the MOA/MOA setup) and is great value at its price.

Evidence?.... Ummm yeah, looking through both.

Im not the only one who thinks so... I ignored the multiple reviews of less than stellar glass and bought one anyway... Didnt take long for me to (literally) see what they were talking about... Please dont make your next response "prove it with links" - do a Google search, youll find im not the only one saying this.

Its quite entertaining that when I gave my real world opinion of the scope you ask for evidence... And then follow up by saying you think it rocks (got evidence?)

Take a look through Bushnell Elite and Weaver Tactical - they are same price point as the pst... Or read reviews... That will be all the "evidence" needed... (I only have 2.5-16x42, 6-24x50 and 5-15x50 so I cant say first hand for all - but I suspect the same results).

BTW, Im not bashing Vortex - I have a Viper PST 1-4x24, two Strikefires and a SPARK - so its not a biased opinion... Ive also read that the PST 6-24x50 glass is very good... Its just that the 4-16x50 isnt up to snuff (again, many people realize this - look it up).

Vortex Viper PST 4-16 FFP or SFP will do that job great, Vortex has life time warrenty, a lot of scopes out there with low failure rates...

with mount and optic you will be well below your 1400 budget even with FFP

                  Zero Stop, Illum Ret,

we have both in stock in MOA and MRAD - EBR 1 Rets

I personally run a NF NSX F1 3-15 on my AR10 Currently since I had the budget for it, if not I would run a Vortex again...

I ended up getting the Nightforce NSX 2-10 x 32 with the LaRue mount. It was in brand new condition for $1400 which seemed like a good price and the reviews were pretty consistently good that I could find. They do have the new one out now with the 42 objective that has better low light view but also more pricey.

Dimitri, what would be a good inexpensive mount for this on a Sig 716?
