Looking for AR optics suggestions?

If money's no issue, of course.... I would suggest running an EOTech on the smaller and an ACOG on the larger barreled rifle.

I have an EOTech 552 on one of my rifles. It's fast. Scary fast. I chose that one after trying out an Aimpoint M4 and EOTech owned by friends and after talking with some other friends with experience using both. I know many users on this forum love their Aimpoints. It's a matter of preference.

As discussed in the post by OutlawDon, magnification is not without it's own merit. Another buddy using his ACOG when we were taking a class a few years back really mopped up on us when it came to the 200 and 400 yard lines. Not to say some people can't shoot just fine at distance without magnification, but I know it helps me. As posted by UCLAPlinker, the magnifyer for an EOTech (these are made for Aimpoints too) might prove to be the best of both worlds (at a similar price to the ACOG).

If you go with the EOTech, you may be fine with the 512. It isn't water resistant as deep as the 552 and is not compatible with Night Vision, but otherwise is much the same. Be sure you get a model that uses AA batteries, as the size "N" batteries used by some are not as easily found (and don't have as long a run time).

The pricing on these is usually subject to Manufacturers Minimum Advertized Price (MAP), so you may get your best deal by calling some of the CalGuns vendors to see if they offer a 'CalGuns discount'.

Docter Red Dot on ACOG

Docter on ACOG is nice, but when I used it personally in 3 guns matches, I found that the docter to be mounted quite high (almost 3" off the barrel).... and you do have to keep that in mind, since depending on your engagement distance, there maybe a hugh POA and POI difference.

I learnt it the HARD way..... shot a hostage (in front of a bad-guy) when I was aiming straight for the head of the BG.

I've always thought they should mount it on the side, where the irons are, in tight to the body.

I really like the ACOG/Docter over the EOTech/Magnifier, if I were doing mostly stuff from 50-400yds. If I were mostly 0-100yds, with occasional 200+, then the magnifier set-up works better. The Magnifier/EOTech isn't light weight, though.

The ACOG Docter option comes in at about half that at 15oz but as noted by Jicko, your cheekweld is way high. And you'll have to shoot with the big boys in Open class if you're interested in 3-gun. Meanwhile, the EOTech magnifier combo allows you to shoot in Tactical scope class.

I've wondered about the EOTech/Magnifier option - whether they considered it 2 optics or not.

The 4X EOTech is only .5X magnification more than their 3X... it's like 3.25vs3.8

the eotech magnifier option is considered 1 optic and is legal in tactical class...

the acog/doctor combo would be considered 2.

Have tried both EOTech and ACOG. I've had my ACOG on my rifle some time and love it. Both are fast. Have shot UglyDrawf's EOTech on his rifle. It maybe faster. Just personal preference.
