Spend the extra 40$ and check out the mueller line of scopes. Nothing but good feedback on rimfirecentral.com and other places, supposedly great scopes for the price.

        BSA Sweet 22

Consider a BSA Sweet 22. I have one and it is excellent. Good glass (very clear), and range adjustable (which is accurate too) with a 'distance' knob which works well. At 100 yards with a Ruger 10/22 heavy barrel I can shoot about an inch group with it.

For a 10/22? If you are planning on keeping it stock, and only want to shoot close, a lot of cheap options. Cheaperthandirt has a lot of scopes.

Tasco from Wally world has scopes for $40. You'll get what you pay for but if you want something cheap and easily replaced, not a bad option.

Less than $60? Barska 4x32 for ~$20 + tax. Better and more light than 4x32 bsa. It's good enough to pop squirrels at 50 to 100 yards. I use a penny to adjust but you could probably buy a cap with turning knobs.

Greater than $60? Get the Mueller APV $115. Lotsa light and you can see the holes at 25~50 yards

Tasco 2.5 - 10 X 42 Target/Varmint scope. Has mildot reticle and target knobs. $65.00. Has adjustable objective also. Keep in mind it is a cheap TASCO scope, but this one seems to work ok. I have used it on an AR and gotten repeatable results to 600 yards. the 2.5X lets you work close if you want to.

Jay, Do it right the first time, if you buy a cheap scope and are not happy with it, you just wasted half the price of a really good one.

How to mount new Mueller APV on 10/22? I have a SS Barrel and Receiver on a stock 10/22 that I just bought. My first upgrade for it was the purchase of a Mueller APV scope that I should be receiving Friday. I have been searching for recommendations on how to mount the scope, and have found...

Do Tasco still have their World Classic Plus made in Japan scopes?
                    They were very good.
