Since we don't "Own the night" anymore thanks to uncle Sniffy IR discipline is needed more than ever. Yes using NV to defend attackers is pretty much nil, NV is the only super power you can buy.

The PERST 3 definitely has IG style and would go great with a Kalashnikov/Mid West Industries Alpha build, but they are heavy and a lot arrived DOA after waiting 3 mos to get here if it doesn't get snugged by customs. His arrived DOA, sent it back, got stuck in France, got delayed 3 months, before they sent it back. He rolled the dice and sent it out again, luckily he got it back after another 3 months of waiting and this all happened before China's Kung Flu lock down.
I like the D2. Especially for the price point. It's just not the end-all-be all solution I was hoping for.

There are US Sellers of the PERST 3. It's safer now. Is it heavier than a D2? Seems hard to believe given how darn big the LED Illuminator is on the D2. That would suck given that the ones I have seen start at $2.5K and go up from there. PERST 4s are going for $1.5K and up. Thanks to Putin invading Ukraine. I am also not crazy about funding the Russian war machine while the Ukraine war rages on. Sexy as the Zenitco stuff is. It will be interesting to see if the prices drop once the import restrictions are lifted. The prices of AKs in general never dropped after they drastically increased during a ban scare about 15 years ago. What you pay $1K+ for now used to run about $500. For some reason the market never corrected itself. This led to more companies making decent AKs, but it means we pay through the nose for them.

Mentioned that you'll need to get a helmet as well. Here are some pics of mine. You could skip the patches, IR beacon and the Princeton navigation light. But the rest are all pretty much must have items. As I mentioned above, there are more affordable options than Team Wendy provided you do not have a massive head like I do. None are going to be comfier that I am aware of. Their padding and adjustment system is second to none. The other items I have listed as must haves below are the most affordable useable options that I am aware of. Wilcox makes a better mount. But it is crazy pricey.

Must have items in the setup below...
Team Wendy Exfil LTP Bump Helmet - $380+ New https://www.teamwendy.com/products/h...mets/exfil-ltp
      USGI Norotos Mount - $100+ Used https://www.ebay.com/itm/39482946452...Bk9SR7aIwJCPYw
      Inforce WML White/IR FDE Light - $150+ New https://www.ebay.com/itm/17566235337...3ABFBMhpnMkI9j
      Krydex Counterweight Pouch MK1 - $15+ New https://www.ebay.com/itm/28408538839...3ABFBM9v7ZkI9j
Counter Weight Kit (I don't like the pouch so I use the one above) - $23++ New https://www.ebay.com/itm/12607703189...3ABFBM_t_gkI9j

While the TW BOA system is great, their pads are just good IMHO. You need to upgrade to the 4D tactical pads, think memory that instantly forms around your melon when you put it on. They're so stable you can run your lid without a chin strap. It's the only pad system that has zero movement that is in use today. The only way to get the pads to form to your noggin better is to spray expanding foam into your bucket before you don it.

You will want to consider upgrading to Team Wendy's BOA chinstrap system as well. What you're thinking about doing is a pretty common thing. A lot of people LOVE the Ops Core shell...especially the Ballistic shell. But dislike the lining/pads/chinstrap. So they take the guns of the Team Wendy and put them in an OpsCore. I was too lazy to do that. Despite being able to get discounts on Ops Core thru an old dealer account I still have with one of their authorized resellers. It just wasn't enough of a discount to make it worth it to me since I knew I already liked Team Wendy.

I think this is the correct link to the chinstrap system you would need. Check with Team Wendy before ordering. Also confirm with them it comes with all the hardware you need. https://www.teamwendy.com/products/a...tention-system

Also ask them which of their pad systems will best fit the helmet you ordered if you want there's. They have more than one.

This video shows these guys doing so.

I’m running the TW Exfil LTP Bump with an Agilite Bridge. Using a Norotos AKA2 NVG mount. Inforce white/IR light. Peltor Comtac IIs. I’ve been thinking about upgrading the arc mounts to the AMP arms, but more of a want than a need. Quite a bit of money just to move the ears to the rear rails.

Hoping to get a Disco32 PTT for Christmas, if not I’ll just grab it next week. No running HAM as I don’t want to go through all of the licensing. Running GMRS right now, will grab a HAM radio for SHTF when all rules are out the window anyway

Funny! I was just looking at this light earlier today after seeing it on some insta-whore?s helmet. I like the dual fuel option and size. Thanks for the recommendation.

I am completely new to the field of night vision and IR.

Can you guys please link me to some YouTube videos or other educational materials to learn more about the basics and what?s out there.

Also could you guys direct me towards good quality nightvision and IR set ups. I don?t mind spending/splurging a little on this. My budget would be around 2 to 3000. It sounds like a lot but I guess I?ve spent more on 1911s and rifles so why not on this. I?m actually pretty excited to learn more about this.

IMHO since you're new, I would highly recommend buying a new NOD from a reputable dealer. Robert from JRHEnterpirses has impressed me and others over many years of being into NV. Mention my screen name when you talk to him, the prices/service will surprise you. Stock on NV have been up and down due to the conflicts going on, but prices have still been normal.

For 3K I would go with JRH's Ugly Sweater WP White Phosphor PVS14. They have small blems aka small to very small spots, but will disappear when actually using it vs looking at a white wall looking for them (don't look at white walls with IR for a long duration), buy a Streamlight TLR VIR "II/2" (NOT A TLR-VIR). I would then save up for a Steiner D2 and skip over the very anemic Holosun, APTIAL-C, Steiner 9007, A3 because their IR illumination performance is very underwhelming.

If you can strip down a 1911, know what to look for when inspecting it for wear and reassemble it, then buying used is an option. Spots/blems are not a problem and will not grow/darken in size over time, think of them like carbon in a diamond. Look for an even bright image in a dark room with barely any light peeking through the bottom of the door. Avoid tubes with recoil damage "looks like ink splotches", shading on edges, burned on images, bright spots (looks like stars in the sky) are defects that all should be avoided.

Right now there is a PVS7 for 1,600 on another site. I PM'd the owner and he sent me pics. It appears to be ITT NE5001 from what's left on the manufactures tag that someone hastily tried to remove (probably because they were scared it was stolen (Contract Mil/LEO only tube), but may have been legitimately sold/DRMO. The tube is missing the data plate but as long as it's original to the housing and from the pics it appears to be a Gen3 ITT tube (I'm guessing Omni VII auto gated pinnacle best case) This would be the best tube for the PVS7 platform. ITT manufactured tubes and put out their own line of PVS14, 7, etc. IIRC the PVS7 NQ5000 (Night Quest) was for civilian sales and came with a lower grade tube. The NE5001 (Night Enforcer) series was for Mil/LEO contracts/sales so they had better tubes.
The benefit the PVS7 has over a 14 is both eyes are aided. With both eye aided it gives me the ability to drive, while a 14/mono tube makes me dizzy and the 7 will have better depth perception over a 14. The cons to the 7 is it is not as durable as a 14, not to say that it's fragile but it has a lot more parts to it and it's not as compact.

Knowing what I know now, I would feel comfortable buying this PVS7 1,600 then buying a D2 900-1,200. Just know I do not know or have had any dealing with the seller, but he does have feedback for prior dealings that I would look at before making a decision.

@Nrai2020 If you want a link or have any questions in the future PM me.
