    reasonable LPV optic?

Looking for a LPV optic for my Ar. Don't really know a lot about the subject. Looked at Vortex but I can't pay 2k for a range toy.

I also don't want to buy junk. Brands / models I should look at?

The Burris RT-6 has good glass, a cat tail included and a solid performer for mid 200.00. It's a better option vs the Vortex 1-6 or 1-8 IMHO.
    Can DI AR's run dirty?

If your budget is around $500-600, I would look into Trijicon or Steiner. Both have very good glass. I would give up 2x and take a 1-4x with nice glass over a 1-6x with cheap glass.

            But... you "WANT" one.

WHY... do you "WANT" one? When YOU can answer the question, THEN you'll KNOW what you "WANT."

Price, budget, purpose? With this info it helps narrow down some options, many can gunners gave put great examples on here already. Steiner, vortex, burris, trijicon, ect. Is used also an option?

                Primary Arms 1-6 x 24 ACSS

About $275 for decent glass and a really useful reticle.

I also have the Burris RT-6 and have no complaints.

I have this in FDE on my budget build. Surprisingly nice for the money.

You can narrow it down depending on various features, like daylight bright illumination, weight, zoom range, eye relief/eye box, etc.

In general, you'll get more for your money in a 1-4 than a 1-6 or above, as optical quality becomes much more critical at higher zooms.

Likewise, the objective size matters - bigger means more light at high zooms, but also more weight.

Inexpensive optics tend to suffer at max zoom, both in clarity/brightness and eye relief.

Here's a review of the RT-6 from the Dark Lord of Optics; it's from 2017, so things will have progressed since then, but mostly in the 1-8x and 1-10x ranges:

Optically, the scope was better than I expected. I have looked at just about every LRVP scope out there or close to it and this is the only sub-$600 1-6x variable I added to my recommendations. All the other scopes in this price range I think I sufficiently well sorted out are of the 1-4x variety. Optically performance stayed reasonable out to the edges. Fish bowl effect at 1x is well controlled. Resolution at 6x is quite good and contrast is better than the competition.
A better scope that's very popular is the Steiner P4Xi 1-4x24, but it's also twice as much as the RT-6.

The cheap PA 1-6 and teh Strike Eagle are OK LPVO's.

                      The RT-6 is better.

The Viper PSTII 1-6 is great and more durable with better glass and day bright dot... IMHO.

This will really boil down to your budget.

                        Burris RT-6 1-6X: $340
                        Viper PSTII 1-6X: $600
                        Steiner P4Xi 1-4X: $800
                        Vortex Razor Gen II-E 1-6x: $1200

It's hard to get good glass and quality construction below $300.

Clarity on the glass was surprise with the RT-6 and so was the turret that broke off not even dropped on carpet. Warranty is good, I'll try it again on a RRA R3 upper.

The PA and Strike Eagle 1-6 have worked fine and the Viper PST II is my favorite for fit and finish, glass, and brightness of the single dot. That's the one I'd recommend (or what comes after it - new release) if you don't want to spend RZR money like you said.

A lot of people are putting offset RDS with a LPVO now because that ONE POWER is not as good as a RDS. But LPVO's tend to have that compact form factor that is nice to have on AR glass.

A fixed 6x with an offset RDS would do the job too considering how a lot of people actually use them. I have a Burris AR536 I may do a offset RDS with.
