I’ve seen some of the competitive shooters from Taran Tactical run a MRO with a offset RMR or SRO. Is this some next level stuff I just don’t understand, or is it tacti-cool? I’m not a competitive shooter nor do I follow them. Only reason I can think of is if the main red dot fails then there’s offset red dot.

sometimes there isn’t a chance to switch the LPVO to 1x and you lose the second.

Offset dots are used for two purposes. Is you run a magnified optic, the offset is for closed distances. If you are running 2 red dots, the offset is for hard leans.

Also.. if you run a LPVO they aren't that great in low light.. so switch to the RMR..

But mostly it faster to move to the RMR than throw the lever on the LPVO since you don't even have to break cheek weld.

I ran an offset T-1 on my SPR, when I was running a 3x9. But once I moved to a 1x6 LPVO (Vortex), which ALSO has a red dot, I no longer felt the need for an offset sight.

IF your LPVO has a red dot, why do you need an offset - especially in a 1x4 or 1x6?

I have the same set up on my new 1-8 Nightforce deal.. it's way faster for me to cant to the RMR than it is to throw the lever back down to 1x.

That's a nice rig, I love my MK118 mod 2, I currently run the upper on my BBAW lower with Viper PST 2-10x44. I consider it my SPR rig.

                      I wish I could get a MK111 Mod 2M and a MK116 Pro. Some day perhaps.

Until then I really like the offset 45 you have there, I may need to set my rifle up like that since I'm running a 2-10.

In regards to the OP, just run whatever seems comfortable to you, and train a lot with it. I mean you already have the RMR so what's the harm in mounting and doing some drills on range day? If it seems like it works then run it, if it seems awkward sell......

That's what I would do if I were sitting on a RMR and an LVPO.

Faster.. don't have to fumble for the throw lever as I stated before.

I bet I can roll the RMR faster than you can thumb the lever from 6x to 1x

Also, as I said, LPVO due to the design usually suffers in low light.. so at twilight you can roll to the RMR

The RMR is adding something like 3 ounces..

This is the direction I've gone with my rifles: mid-range magnification with offest irons or red dots as backups or short range use.

In all honesty, a simple 3-9x optic is still extremely versatile, and that's what I have on my .22 LR Savage and 18" 5.56 AR15. I slapped a cheap set of offset irons on the AR for close range backup sights, and it's a surprisingly handy rifle for shooting at mid- to long-ranges, and I can easily rotate it to the side for quick shots at close range.

I plan on taking it coyote hunting soon, and I suspect the offset irons will come in handy for those sneaky ones that pop up closer than my scope can find quickly. If I put an optic on my rifles, it's usually to shoot at ranges between 100-600 yards, so I like the 9x magnification up top.

While all these new 1-6x to 1-10x scopes look pretty awesome and would probably serve my needs extremely well, the simple fact is that they weren't as good or affordable when I bought most of my optics years ago. If I was going to war or shooting competitively I'd probably want a high-end LPVO with an offset red dot to save valuable fractions of a second. But in reality, I'm perfectly fine with a basic, reliable 3-9x optic. The offset iron sights & red dots are there on my go-to rifles for *worst case scenario situations*, but are definitely overkill for recreational purposes.

Bought the RMR new barely last year and was close to selling it but since I had it lying around decided to try it offset on my new LPVO, got a carbine class coming up to give it a try.

dCompetition is different than what you might encounter in SHTF. The reason I like the 1-6x LPVO is that it works well, better than a ACOG, for close encounters, but I can get 6X (or 8 or 10) for target identification.

That's also the reason that the military is trying them out too.

My biggest complaint is weight. That why I went with the new 18oz Trijicon Creed 1-6X and a 5.5oz Nightforce mount, to keep the weight low. I didn't want to spend the dough on a Mk6, especially if I might go to an 8 or 10 power soon.

The Viper 1-6 might be a better scope but it is heavier 4-5oz. Most of my rifles have RDS, but I've been using a couple 1-4X for awhile on two of them and just recently decided to try 1-6. The LVPOs just keep getting better, lighter, and cheaper.

The next one I might buy is the NX Nightforce 1-8 because its light. But I'll wait until the price comes down slightly. OR The Vortex Viper 1-10 which is the same weight as the 1-6.

My feeling exactly. Especially if you are just banging steel. You don't need to go to 6X to hit steel at 100.
