Depends on what you're going to use it for.

I have ran just about every optic on my SBRs and AR pistols over the years. From Elcans, Acogs, Eotechs and Aimpoints.

I always go back to the Trijicon Acog 3.5x for the eye relief and range.

Aimpoint would be my second choice.

I ran a Eotech on mine for the big donut and dot for close quarters.

I run a Trijicon MRO on a Scalarworks quick-detach mount. Full co-witness with Midwest Industries Combat flip-up sights.

For HD I would go Eotech, it has a really is a nice reticle for close range and some mid range as well.

when I build a 300 blkout AR pistol I'll go back to an Eotech.

for my SPR rig I have a 2-10x but I wouldn't use that clear a house for a bump in the night.

I’d like to be an Eotech for my ar pistol but will settle for a holosun 510.

I have a vortex sparc ar on my rifle but i also have an astigmatism. So as much as i love it, I would like to try a holographic sight to see if its any better for my eyes.

Vortex UH1 also another option, but its just ugly

What's the budget? You've already stated it's mainly for home defense, so I think a red dot trumps LPVO for fast target acquisition. There are so many good options and most listed here are $400+ and while I love the Aimpoint T2 not everyone wants to spend $800 on an optic.

I originally wanted an Eotech XPS for my ar pistol. Then it was a toss up between the Holosun HS510c or the Eotech XPS2. I ended up going with the Holosun because of the solar power and I got it for $280. The cost difference allowed me to pick up a light system for my ar pistol.

I have fallen in love with my trijicon mro s running them on a sig mpx and an mp5 clone. Also have aimpoints but feel the mro is slightly better.

                            Op,

If you get anything with magnification there will be an eye relief/eye box issue that will require consistent cheek weld/head placement.

You'll also need enough space on your top rail to mount the optic forward or back to gain the necessary eye relief.

With a non-magnified red dot eye relief is not an issue.

IMO, for HD a red dot is the best option considering the potential that shots will likely be at extremely short range taken from potentially awkward positions and/or with less than ideal head placement.

Understand there will be compromises no matter what your choice. I have the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 and it does well but for purely home defense I might look at the C-More sights. No tube to look thru, eye placement is better than most of the other red dots but it is also prone to washout.

Nice MCX there. How do you like that Silencerco blast shield? Currently building another AR and considering going with the Lantac ASR Dragon for the muzzle which would be compatible with that blast shield. One question though, in your opinion would there be enough room for it if I went with a 14.5" barrel and 14" handguard? Meaning would you still be able to take on/off the shield or does the bottom of it extend a little further beyond a half inch from the end of the barrel? Thanks.
