Burris says "Pacific Rim", which covers quite a lot of turf. Many of their less expensive scopes and red dots are made in the Phillipines and Korea. There should be more detail when they start shipping.

Basically correct. At 3x, you'll see the front sight as a blurry shadow. Above 4x, the shadow pretty much disappears as you go higher.

This bothers some people, and not others (like me). A popular solution is to go to a folding front sight.

Here's what the FSB looks like seen through a Leupold Mk4 PR 3-9X at 3x:

Fixed x3? Looks like a cross between an aimpoint and an acog with the bdc reticle. Although if it was variable magnification then we would really be talking.

This would be awesome for a California FAL if it had a see through mount for the iron sights (and a 7.62*51 reticle).

It's short enough for stripper clip loading in front of the scope.

I bought a SUIT just for that purpose but it's optics aren't that great and the external adjustments are a big liability in my opinion.

            About the height:

All the specs I've seen have the centerline(center of reticle) sitting from 3.3"-3.8" above the rail. Seems a bit high to me. I like to keep things as close to the bore as possible for best accuracy and a cool look. I only want the center of the sight to be about 1.5"-2" above the rail. But mine would be going on a Saiga 223.

Now I may be wrong but it looks in this picture as though the part of the sight that meets the mount has a hollow center. Possibly a backup rear iron sight?

I almost wanna just pay now but then again don't want to be the guinea pig and have to send it back. If it is indeed that high I will need to find another option.

It's a typo, they meant to say above the barrel. Just judging by the size of the image and the STATED overall length of 5.29", use it as a measurement and you will see that it has about the same above rail height as that of any AR optic.

It's basically exactly like an ACOG when it comes to design and placement, it even uses the same mount, as in any mount made for an ACOG Larue/ARMS/GG&G etc. will work. This is also why it has that whole on the bottom going the length of the lower portion of the sight. ACOG's were originally made to go on carry handle and as such that was the channel needed to clear the iron sights on a regular AR carry handle. Burris made a wise choice by replicating that system since this thing will sell to many people and the choice to use it on a carry handle will open the market up to them as well as taking all the existing ACOG mounting solutions.

I will pick one up as soon as they come out.

Approximately 3.5" above the barrel is perfect for me then.

What about the eye relief? 2.5"? That's pretty small for a fixed 3X. I.m guessing that ones not a typo though.

I think that height number on the web page is for mounting on top of a carry handle.

On the rail, even 3.5" above the barrel would be way too high, as the iron sights are 2.6" above the barrel centerline. Also, it lists it as 3.3-3.8" to optic centerline, and this isn't a spec that varies that much for normal mounts. It's too much variation for a carry handle mount, as well.

So, it should list 2 heights - height above the rail on a flat top upper using the supplied mount, and height above the rail equivalent with the Picatinny mount removed and the optic mounted on the carry handle.

Anyway, If you assume the length is correct (their web page and the post above giving specs don't agree, but heck, call it 5.3"), then the pic on the web page is slightly under 1/2 size on my monitor. Measuring the centerline height on the screen would make it just about 1.7" above the rail, which would put it a little high, but not out of the range of what people like.

If it weren't magnified, that would be right at lower 1/3 co-witness height. You can't co-witness with a magnified optic, though.

                    Still worried about eye relief.

It says 2.5" That is nothing! The burris Fullfield riflescopes offer between 3.1" and 3.8" of eye relief and those are variable power, much higher power scopes.

This thing should have at least 4" right?

Depends. For an AR, getting hit by the scope during recoil isn't that big a worry. Also, shorter eye relief means the scope can be mounted further back on the rail, which gives a lot more flexibility in where you can put it.

Many traditional scopes with long eyepieces and long eye relief need an offset mount, especially for shooting NTCH on an AR. It may be they designed it that way on purpose for this type of shooting, since this scope isn't designed to use an offset rail or mount.

This is just a guess, though. It'll be a lot clearer when they actually ship and we can get some real-world user reports.

The hollow portion you see is the base of the CARRY HANDLE MOUNT. I believe the mount is actually two seperate mounts. One for the carry handle option that mounts to the picatiny base. I think the heigth will be on par with an Aimpoint or Eoteck or other tactical red dot.

What have you all heard of shipment date. I was notified by Burris a week ago that they should be in some dealers shops end of April. All back orders filled by June.

Dunno about the scope, but I back-ordered several less expensive items in January - a few mounts and the tripler - and just got a notice that my tripler had shipped.

                            Woohoo!

My I asked who you ordered from? I placed my order with SWFA in Jan. for the AR332. I keap the order open as it was listed for 209.95 at that tome.

I ordered from SWFA. No notice yet on the 2 PEPR mounts, just the tripler:
