    Scope mount worth the dough???

Quick question...I own a PA 1-6x mount and was wondering if a AD Recon mount was worth the investment or not especially when it cost almost as much as the optic itself? If not, how about something like a Aero Precision Ultralite SPR mount? Thank you.

I own an Aero Precision Ultralite SPR mount.
It is one of the more accurate mounts. I bed all of my scopes and the Aero needed the least amount of lapping of any mounts I have used.
I have not ever had an AD Recon Mount, so I can't comment on them.

My optic came with the cheap PA deluxe mount but I want something better. I might end up getting the Aero Precison SPR cause Optics Planet has a sale plus my $25 gift card will be like $40 shipped. The AD Recon is nice but I can't spent that much when the optic was only $270.

I'm going to go with the Aero now do I choose extended or SPR? I don't shoot nose to charging handle, I prefer a bit back. Thanks.

I know there are a lot of AD recon fans here, so I mean no offense but Ive found that Larue is king. I had a ADR and I had a stripped screw right out of the package. They didn't stand behind their product. So for me, I won't use them again.

Good to know. I run a Larue for my MRO no complaints.

I owned the Aero Precision Ultralite. Its a cool mount but the clamp will move if the rifle falls to the ground. I prefer 4 bolts clamping the scope than two on one side.

If you want a solid mount for a small price, I'd recommend this - https://www.amazon.com/SWFA-S-S-A-L-...pe+mount&psc=1

The AD Recon is a great mount and is the best deal out there for reliable zero hold QD mounts. I own one too. I got mine at 130, initially was hesitant, and now believe its a steal below 150.

You set the scope so that your natural cheek weld will land you right at the proper relief (So that you see the entire sight picture in your ocular lens).
You will have to get that measurement yourself.
Then, knowing that you DO NOT want to mount the mount forward of the upper receiver, you will need to make the determination of which mount to get. Aero has three to choose from. Standard, Extended or SBR.

Aero uses three. And no, they don't move. Although, I'm sure I can take a sledge hammer to it and break it off.
Also, it's hard to tell from the Amazon pic, but if those are bushings in that mount, stay away from it at all costs.

This was my old setup. I'm thinking the extended would be perfect? What do you think?

Yes, they are composite bushings and they are awesome. I have the same for Burris Zee clamps and wish all mounts had them. The bushings for the SWFA are only used when sizing down from 30mm to 1 inch.

I owned an Aero Precision ultra light mount. There are only two bolts per clamp. The clamp is bolted on one end and has clam shell retention on the other. There ARE three bolts at the base. My rifle slid off a wall the night before a match while I was packing. It fell on a carpet floor. I lost the zero and had to walk the hits in at a match the next day. YMMV.

The Aero clamps are also a PITA to torque down. I have to compensate movement when I torque them down as the zero will move right once you get the proper torque. Doable but not the most accurate. This is also true for the American Defense clamps, but they are easier as when you torque on two bolts on clamp on one end, the rest of the bolts place nice. Not so for the Aero.

I prefer clamps that cup a scope from the bottom if I can get them. Those clamp down easy and the scope stays true when you ease in the bolt torques.

yep, thats what I had. the clamp is what holds the scope. the base attaches to the rifle. and yes it does have 3 bolts there.

they were fine when I had them, till it fell lightly on a carpeted floor one day. then the zero moved.

Compared to the AD, some guy monkeyed with my sling and unlocked my scope QD between stages. The scope dropped off the rifle during the next stage, I picked it up, clamped it back on with the QD, and proceed to finish the stage. The zero held. Just for that, the AD is worth it.

If that is the right positioning for you, I would agree.
You could even get away with a standard and move the mount forward a bit more. So if you reload, You would be able to put a Caldwell Brass catcher mount between the BUIS and the scope mount.
