    Shotgun HD light/mount set up

anyone have pics of a shotgun light/mount set up? I am debating over mounting a small raill to the handguard or clamping a mount to the tube. any favorite set ups? this is for a hd set up.

For home defense, a light on the front end is the way to go. There are a number of options for the most popular models (ie Rem870 & Mossberg 500) including replacing foregrips with embedded lights, but the simple method is a barrel mount.

FWIW, if you find yourself wanting to mount a light on a shotgun dedicated for ballistic breaching, the best setup (in my opinion) is a low-power filtered light (65 lumens max) mounted with a pressure switch on top of the receiver, back from the barrel. You don't need to aim the shotgun in a traditional sense, so covering any sights isn't an issue, the location of the light gives you ample focused illumination on the lock and having it set-back on the receiver pretty much guarantees it's not going to be damaged. Just food for thought.

I have one of these on my 1187. I found a toggle switch for an old 6P. It works well and was a good use (for me) of a light just gathering dust. The surefire forends are nice but a little pricey compared to a low tech solution.

the tacstar is more my speed, with a maglite and the tail switch. I can not see dropping the kind of money for the surefire or even the mesa mount and a light. The mesa does look very slick though.
I am no door kicker here, just want a light that I do not have to hold if I hear a bump in the night.

I use the cheapo clamp-on mount with a Tac Star T6 light on my Mossy 500 and it works perfectly. No slippage or light issues after bunches of 12g slugs.
