    EoTech goes back, what now?

    So I'm curious.

I wanted an EoTech since I first used one on a Mini-14 several years ago and about a year ago added one to one of my AR-15's.

Now that everyone is sending them back, what do you plan on replacing them with?

I purchased my 512 for the following reasons:

    1. Large window, easy acquisition.
    2. AA batteries, easy to carry and replace.
    3. Reticle easy to see, easy to acquire.
    4. Rugged (enough, it seems).
    5. Co-witness with BUIS.

So last weekend I watched my buddy's Aimpoint CompM4 completely fail (it's going back to the mfr). I tried my other pal's Mako EoTech-like model (not sure what Model Number but he got a great Black Friday deal), but seriously? you need a magnifier just to see the dot. Worthless reticle on a 1x optic IMHO.

So what will you all get? I really don't want to look through a tube, or I would have purchased a tube in the first place.

    Love to hear everyone's thoughts.

If you don't trust eotechs and you don't trust aimpoints, you are left with iron sights IMO. I don't know if anything is more dependable than either. Say what you want about seeing this and that, but there is a reason they are probably the most popular red dot brands.

I've been following this EoTech debacle, but it appears that the problems only appear in extreme temperatures and extreme moisture environments. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but for the regular shooting range user, would these HWS issues ever appear? Or is it more the principle of the matter?

FWIW, I've been itching to get an ACOG.

A guy at work sold his Eotech and bought one of these:

I sold mine and bought an Aimpoint Pro for $361 delivered with a Calguns discount code

It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

Meprolight is good, trijicon 1.5x acog, reflex, and their triple thing... tro maybe.

In all honesty, those optics are all better than eotech and aimpoint. I just bought an aimpoint for cost. Eventually will be replaced with an acog 1.5x

Normal range shooting in Cali should not be any issue and if your Eotech is running fine there should be no worries.

The Trijicon MRO seems to also get great reviews, along with the Aimpoints.

That sounds right. Was just curious as to why so many people are returning them when they will probably never see the extreme conditions that cause EoTechs to lose zero. But to be fair, I've always wanted an EoTech, and this whole things got me having second thoughts...

Think about this... You zero your Eotech on a nice spring day. 75 degrees. Late summer you case it up and put it in the trunk and head to the range. 98 degrees air temp. Gets pretty damned warm in the trunk. Then shoot it. Your zero just might have shifted. 100 yd zero, of course.
I have 2 zero'd and co-witnessed to my irons. They were zero'd at about 90 degrees. They live in my safe in my garage. Checked them both for shift in relation to the irons last week. They had both shifted.

My EO Tech 557 is going back and I've since become addicted to "prismatic" gun sights. It's a type of red dot sight that people either love or hate. It's intended to be used with both eye's open as the sight itself seems to "disappear". Another bonus is that the sight has an etched reticle that requires no illumination. When you turn it on the black turns red and makes for very crisp stadia. I found mine as a blem from Natchez on sale for $334 delivered.

The downside is that they're not supposed to work w/magnification. I haven't tried yet to be sure, but I seemed to be able to get a focus hand-holding the magnifier.

give them a look, they might impress you.

I haven't had any issues with my EO Tech, until then I'm keeping it because I don't like the Aimpoint. we are still waiting to see if they are or can even fix the problem

Looks really cool. Kinda "Star Wars'ish". I just don't wanna be a Guinea pig for $500.
