Its a good scope, but which 6-24x50? There are like 5 different versions of that same scope with differences within each family...

    Viper PST FFP
    Viper PST SFP
    Viper HS-T
    Viper HS LR
    Viper HS

The core scope is the same for the most part, but each series is different in regards to how it is setup.... turret setup, reticle type, MIL/MOA/V-Plex,BDC, and SFP/FFP options if applicable.

What type of shooting do you plan on doing with the scope?

They're a decent scope, and the ffp mil/mil is a good option.

I plan to pick up the PST 4-16x50 FFP for an 18" 308 AR build later on down the line. I don't see the need for 24x magnification shooting <1000 yards, and have read that the non-HD Vortex scopes can get a little blurry past 16x.

I'm also in the process of purchasing a Razor HD 5-20x50 FFP for my Remington 700. I'd prefer FFP for simplicity and ease of use.

That should fit the bill just fine... for the money its a great scope and a good value. The PST line is correctly setup at a target scope.

I use the FFP MOA version of that scope on my 223 bolt action with a 0 MOA base. If you really like to push the distance you can run out of elevation in a hurry, so if you have the option of a 20 MOA base, you should get one.

Depending on the load you should be able to get out to 500 just fine on a flat base.

I've owned both the 4-16 and the 6-24 PST...

16x on the 6-24x looks a lot better than the 4-16x.

My 4-16x PST wasn't that great... optically I wasn't really happy with it so I sold it. Maybe it was just mine, but on the top end of the magnification range got a bit hazy / milky. The 6-24x optically seemed to be much stronger, even the top end of the 6-24x looked better than the 4-16x.

If you do a little searching, you will find I am not the only one who has experienced that.

If you have the money for the Razor, get it and don't look back.

If you can get one used or on sale, the SWFA SS HD 5-20x is worth a look. I think it has even better glass than the Razor but its close in optical performance, just less features, if that's something you can live without.

I have 6-24x50 PST Mil/Mil. Love it. Got is used for less than $800. Tracks great. Very capable scope with a kick @#^ warranty. Can't go wrong. You can always sell it and upgrade if you want.

Got it mounted on a 6.5 Creedmoor with a match Lilja barrel, Sun Devil Upper/lower.

Good to know! Thanks for the heads up. Makes sense that the 16x looks better on the 6-24x than the 4-16x.

Yes, unlimited lifetime warranty is a good thing to have in my opinion.

My R700 is also the 20" SPS tactical.

I'm running a Viper HS-T 6-24x50 VMR-1 on my AR for silhouette out to 500 meters with a zero base and am near the end of adjustment. This is with running 75gr projectiles. I am quite happy with my choice, I just leave it set to about 18 power and adjust my elevation and parallax. It resets back and forth just fine.
