thoughts on Vortex scope

QD is a concept for AR shooters that want high speed gear- and take off the scope to use BUIS- if the scope tanks-

Bolt action/precision rifle- Not an important feature... Scope toast- rifle toast-

Once you get it setup right, you leave it alone- messing with things only messes with your zero, and it isnt a 'precision rifle' anymore- since you dont know what it's going to do.

For the price of some fancy QD thingy.... you can get a good base and rings from a number of good manufacturers. They're way more solid than most qd too. Set it, and forget it.

After trying out my setup, I pull it apart again and use a small amount of blue loktite on everything. Most stuff says no loktite, but I've had stuff come loose before- once you check everything works, a dab of blue (removable) so it doesnt budge, and just leave it alone unless you need to pull it for some reason.

Thanks guys, I really don't plan to use the QD function much, or even at all really. I may test it out to see how well it holds zero after removing, but it's definitely not going to be every time.

So after all the debate between the pst and other scopes, i have decided to get the vortext hst 6-24x50mm mrad scope. My reason because i couldnt find any other reason why i needed the pst model. I know others have said just skip the hst model and go straight to the pst but for the price difference I couldnt see myself spending almost $1,000 for a scope. I figured the hst model would do me justice my remington 700 sps tactical. Got the scope from MTG Firearms / CS Tactical from Elk Grove, thanks again Bob and Mike. I also got the nightforce base, vortex rings with it.

Awesome man, I just got my razor in and will be sighting it in tomorrow! Ended up going with Seekins rings.

I used to think the same thing until my friend ordered a pair. After getting them in my hands I was really impressed, its a pretty big upgrade from the TPS rings I always use.

I liked them enough to start using them myself, even with the premium in cost. The hardware they use and the integral recoil lug are fantastic. Never seen fasteners that big on scope rings before.

Vortex doesn't make their own rings... they are an OEM.

If you purchased the Vortex Precision Matched rings, they are made by Seekins and are exactly the same.

I'm not 100% sure on the other Vortex rings, but the Tactical line look just like the Burris XTR rings. Pretty sure the SWFA rings are also Burris XTR based OEM.

Not really sure about the Viper or Hunter series. Viper rings have a hint of Warne ring in them, but I could be wrong.

Don't mind that muzzle brake. Leave her just the way she is. Then, no one will shoot around you. You'll have a whole lot of space around you.

Congrats OP. I went through the same debate and ended up with the HST MOA also. The PST I wanted was just shy of $1K and the HST was $625.00. In comparison, the PST has the fancier reticle but for almost $400 less, the reticle on the HST was fancy enough for me. Enjoy the new scope.
