    Spreewerk P38

I probably paid a little more than I should have, but this cyq P38 just kept calling to me.

Probably made in 1944, it exhibits the typical rough machining of Spreewerk made P38's. All numbers are matching and it has strong rifling with a few pits, but nothing too bad.

Next to the serial number there are two asterisks that signify the the frame was originally rejected and then accepted after the problem was corrected.

      Very nice.

I'll bet you got a better deal than I did on my cyq43 AND your grips are prettier. Mine are black, but I have a fetish for the red with lots of filler.

Looks really good. My cyq is a bit rougher, with less bluing.

That's a good looking pistol OP. Very nice. I have a post war P38 slide on a P1 frame and it is nice but yours looks a lot more "real".

Dunno why they don't work for you. I reloaded them so maybe they're okay now.

Work this time. The edges at the front are rounded. It could be refinished. Post it on the P38 forum.
I think the P38 is a wonderful shooter. I have a BYF42 and shoot it occasionally. Yours is probably worth $400 to $600. I am not sure how rare yours is. If refinished or a Russian capture it would be towards the lower end.

Nice P38. I think it was a capture. Stamp marks are Russian. I may be wrong. I'm not an expert. I have a CYQ Spreewerk as well.

I see the partial X above the serial number now. Still, nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, it is definitely a RC. As for the front edges of the slide being somewhat rounded, I have looked at it under a very strong magnifying glass and I believe that it was made that way. If there had been some kind of polishing done on the slide, I believe that the machining marks on the slide would have been removed. All other edges on the gun are sharp and look correct.

As for the value, I have been looking for a decent P38 for about a year now, and I have yet to see a wartime gun for under $500 and most of those at that price point were very beat. I paid $550 for this one and in addition to the numbers matching the barrel is cyq marked and the magazine is WWII with eagle over 135 on it, which is, I believe a Walther inspector.

I am happy with it though, and I intend to shoot it as opposed to my numbers matching 1913 Luger that I am afraid of breaking one of the numbered parts on it and destroying the value.

If you are happy with it then the price was right.

As for the Luger, replace the numbered parts with new ones. That way you won't break one and you can have fun shooting it.
                          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Very informative. I did not know that about the asterisk.
