Bummer I bought my hex Mosin from big 5 at the beginning of the year when they had it on sale. I paid $223 including taxes and fees. It looked to be in good condition but then I had to fix the magazine floor plate and now the stock is cracked. Still I like the rifle and the round it shoots. Now I just need to find some more yugo surplus since I'm down to my last 30 rounds or get some of that new red army standard 7.62x54.

Hopefully the cheap plastic stocked 22s and pellet guns will keep the youth interested in shooting. I believe BigV was a place where a lot of novices were introduced to gun ownership. Those cheap C&Rs would inevitably lead to bigger and better things.

Without C&Rs, BigV will probably fall on hard times. I only go in there to look at guns. Often I will not buy a gun, but pick up some new shoes or snow sleds, etc.. Without the C&R draw, I may just go to Target.

The goal of every C&R collector should be to become a high roller C&R whale. Multiples of everything, can upon can of extinct and impossible to find ammo for all of them, and a smug sort of self actualization of your own awesomeness.

If I was wealthy, I would go nuts buying C&Rs and would build a collection like SVT40's

i'm only in my 20's and its so disturbingly sad to see such an awesome hobby slowly being crippled into scarcity. i sold my mosin, wasn't a huge fan but it was the 2nd rifle a bought. if i did it all over again i would have bought 2-3 80$ mosins when i had the chance and kept atleast one for a wall ornament of nothing else.

I started collecting at about 23 or so, stumbled across a killer deal on a pretty '52 tula SKS, and I slid down the slope from there. 10 years later I have around 25 c&r rifles. Not being a man of means by any stretch I've pieced this motley collection together almost literally a penny at a time. I don't consider any of these to be an investment because I don't think i'll ever sell any of them. Had a brief scare at one point but thankfully it passed without me giving up any of my babies.

It is my personal goal to continue converting people into c&r fanatics.

Thanks Brian and the rest of you. I am in my early thirties and have had this addiction for several years. I seem to love all guns but the C&Rs have taken over.

Most my friends that I talk and learn from are fifty to sixties. And sometimes I think when they are gone there will be a great hole in this hobby.

I am not wealthy but can afford to add to the collection from time to time. I have a larger collection than most but don't consider myself a whale at all. on the other hand just because I haven't posted pics of all my new family members doesn't mean I didn't add any. There will always be some with more or one in better condition.

It is more than just a collection or hobby it is an investment as well. One day I will unload them all. I just need people to still love them enough to buy them at inflated prices.

Back to the topic at hand as milsurps disappear from the retail shelves it is both a blessing and a curse. good for values of what I have but bad for my wallet in acquiring more.

And this is the benchmark we would all aspire to.

Indeed. Back when they were out of both Enfields and any sort of Mausers, aa couple of years past that, in fact, I asked, if they had anything in the back, and the manager pulled out an immaculate Turkish Mauser and a No. 4 Mk. I made by Long Branch. That was when all they had was Mosins and Steyrs M95. He had to research the price (their last selling price), and sold me the Turk for $69 and the Enfield for $119, if I recall correctly. Interestingly, half a year after that or so they got a small number of Lee Enfields No. 4 Mk. Is, not nearly in as good condition, and were selling them for $200 on sale. Still a decent price back then.

Me. Bought quite a few of them that way, and I was rarely disappointed, and sometimes - very pleasantly surprised.

That was part of the "Fun" when my friend opened his crate. He didn't know what he was getting but was not disappointed. Couple of Hex receivers and a couple of Laminates where there.

The crates are a special kind of evil. I bought one of those cases of 6 that Classic Arms was selling, with the intention of keeping 1-2 of the best ones, and selling the rest. Well, I kept 5 of them... Various kinds, 2 of them - pre-war, one of those - hex receiver, 4 out of 5, if I recall correctly, were DDR. My brother managed to talk me out of two of them later on though...

I had to go into a Big 5 for some fishing line today and I noticed that hiding in the back corner of the gun rack was a lone 91/30. It was the only milsurp they had out and the only gun with a wood stock except for a Ruger 10/22. I didn't have time to take a look at it, but I think it was priced at $229.
