    Thank you for that.

As people know the club candidates make up an extensive list. Earlier this year I spent an inordinate amount of time exploring the list and it was just my luck to keep hitting those clubs which expected active participation in marksmanship and other events. Im not against that but club participation is not the reason I love and want to own a Garand. I appreciate CMP's encouragement about active shooting but clubs as a requirement, I think it sucks. And yet I, anyway, am stuck because I believe CMP is the best place to buy a Garand so i must get through the requirements.

Well, to be fair, CMP is not a collector's program - it's a markmanship program.

I say thank God for government waste. If government is doing bad things, it's only the waste that prevents the harm from being greater.

What kind of government do you guys got here? This is worse than California.

True, I understand. Just my 2cents thats marksmanship programs as a requirement to buying sucks and seems unnecessary, or not the american way, or something.

For me it was CRPA, which I would have joined anyway. I sent the kitchen sink in with my packet:

          CRPA
          NRA
          FFL03 / COE
          DD-214
          LE CRED

Be happy they no longer require you to actually shoot a match, like when I got mine.

"Proof of marksmanship activity" meant match results with your name on it.

Has the modern US Military ever sold working surplus guns directly to the public? That would certainly eliminate the middleman cost. They should give them away like they did welfare cheese...

                Ah, interesting, i didnt know.

Im just fed up with regs and being pushed through hoops as we all are. Its just gotten to me. No offense to CMP, we need them.

I havent yet done Appleseed but i like the M.O.--there it is, available, youre encouraged but not forced.

That said, if everyone did take Appleseed we all be reading off the same page which helps us as a group. "All craftsmen share a knowledge."
