Thank you all for the input. As usual, the CMP delivers! I asked for the HRA and that is what they sent me. The rifle could pass as a brand new Garand because there is no trace of wear visible anywhere. The stock is obviously brand new but it has a nice CMP cartouche. It was a bit dry to the touch so I hit it with some Howard's before I socked it and put it away.

I am sure I will be shooting this rifle at some point but I like the brandy new feel so I am going to let it stay "new" for a while. Anyway, here are some pictures I just took within the last few minutes:

Congrats! I shot one for the first time months ago. I was worried about recoil but it wasn't too bad. That's a nice rifle.

C&R shoot at WEGC on 7-14. It will have been new long enough by then. When I got my IHC DCM gun I had to go to the library to read up on M1's. They are packaged a lot nicer now than then, mine came in cardboard box.
        Nice Rifle.

Nice Garand, I see its a 5.79 and your rifle looks brand new. What kind of wood I is it and its gotta be an excellent shooter, maybe you got lucky and got a new barrel You take it down yet and see if it's matching s/n's? Theres lots of them out there. That Howard's really makes the wood pop.

Very nice. It should be a fine shooter. I thought I lucked out getting 1+ and 2+ but mine is just a lowly service grade, not a special.

Beautiful Garand Bobby. The service grade specials are the closest you can get to new Garand. I love mine, it's an excellent shooter.

This can clearly get out of hand. I think always buying with enough selling, (or at least trying to sell) keeps the mrs. from detecting too much. Shell game.
Its always interesting to lurk with you C & R guys. I bought a service grade HRA this last spring (off here) and have been recently shooting it. Really fun and after I started loading for it, even more fun. Now I'm wondering should I add a new model?
Couple of years back I fell into an IBM m1 carbine that's fun to shoot as well. Probably shouldn't shoot it as much as I do but hey, it's a gun right? Got a couple of mosins that mostly sit but I'm afraid to branch out.
                        Congrats on the new shooter.
                        Enjoy.

I shoot my NPM and Rock-Ola. They're made for that. Someone else on here said, "If you don't shoot them, they're not guns." I like that philosophy. With all the hoops we have to jump through in KA, there's no space for wall-hangers. Shoot `em while we still can.

                          But seriously Bobby, 0+0+? SCORE!

I would love to shoot my M1 Carbines more, but the ammo is somewhat pricey and it is so easy to dump mags with such a fun and soft shooting plinker. At least with the Garand you only have 8 rounds and get a decent shoulder thump to keep your trigger finger from going haywire.

That is a good looking rifle. I got one a few years ago and the only thing I wish I did was to check the stock for oprod clearance before I finished it, as it drug in two spots along the side.
Mine is built on a Springfield receiver in the 19,000 s/n range. Maybe one day I should put a repro gas trap on it. As it is now, it's one of my favorite rifles to shoot.
