Picking up CMP Special Garand in the Morning

I previously owned a CMP SG Garand that was pretty decent but I sold it off during the end of 2013 C&R boom. It was easy to rationalize at the time because it was the most beat up Garand I had and there was a tidy profit margin as well.

Anyway, in retrospect it seems like any Garand owner should have a CMP gun with the trappings that come with it such as the personalized certificate, nice case, ETC. I sort of regretted selling it, simply because it was "my" CMP gun and we all have that fear that CMP Garands will run dry sooner or later.

I sold off several C&R guns recently to gather the coin and dropped 1K on a CMP special. I honestly wanted a newish shooter in nice shape over a more vintage warhorse (I have some other Garands that fit that bill). I asked for a HRA because all of mine are Springfields (at least the receivers are). I don't know whether that request was fulfilled, will know in a few hours.

    Timeline:

08/06/2014: Packet and money order sent.

    08/19/2014: DBU Email received.

08/28/2014: Order pending on the CMP E-Store

09/03/2014: CMP shipment email and Fedex email received. Overnight, cool!

09/04/2014: Picking up rifle from my local Fedex store. Pictures to follow!

Woo! Can't wait! I wish I could justify buying more C&R rifles. Unfortunately, the budget and the wife don't agree on having "More pointless guns that you don't shoot"

I'm afraid she isn't curable. She'll never understand

I hear you there. I sold 3 to buy 1, for a net loss of 2. I recommend evasion, stealth, and subterfuge as methods of dealing with spouses who run interference on the C&R acquisitions. It is pretty easy to get to a point where you can sneak another one in without any notice. They might pretend to keep tabs but they never know how many you actually have. As long as you let them maintain the illusion of control, you can go on doing whatever you want in peace.

Oh that part I have down pretty good. The part I'm stuck on is figuring out how to be stealthy at sneaking another safe into the house lmao

Looking forward to seeing pics. Best of luck in getting everything you are hoping for. I'm pretty sure with the Special that will be the case.

I just picked up my SA Service grade Tuesday. I now have to start my schooling as it is my first Garand. What is with these things? I'm already thinking about another and haven't even shot this one yet….

You will not regret getting the SGS. However, most SGS are SA manufactured receiver and more often than not of WWII vintage. So my bet is you will likely get another SA.

I took a quick look at the CMP forum the other day and now it looks like the IHCs to be released in November (or before) have been delayed??? Do you guys have anymore current news or wisdom? If I can't get an IHC, I think I will go for a CMP SG. Thanks for your input.

Not to high-jack, but do you know if the IHC's will be sold on their own, or luck of the draw?
                    They gave, so we have.

Exciting! There will probably be another mail in sale for the IHC rifles. Doubtful it will be luck of the draw.

Yep, that is what I am thinking as well. If so, it will just end up creating another flimsy rationalization on my part to go look for an HRA next.

The serial number was posted in the estore when it shipped. You can look it up here and see what manufacture it matches.http://fulton-armory.com/faqs/m1g-faqs/tea/m1serial.htm

Just tell her that it's an investment. All of my C&R's are worth more now than when I purchased them.

Congrats, that's pretty fast. I think I waited almost 6 months for my Service Grade Special last year.
