Most C&R rifles value wise are broken down by year, style , condition etc. Being that their is really only one model M1 what decides value other than condition. I am not trying to start a my M1 is more valuable than your M1 contest.
My reason for asking is based on reading many posts on M1s but nothing definitive about value. As long as the CMP still has M1s for around 700 dollars that will keep the value down some. But in the real world [ gun stores, gun shows ] M1s go for over 1,000 plus and they get it. Turners had a decent HR for 1500 and i think they got it.
I would think a WW 2 M1 would be more Valuable than a Korean war production M1 that never went to war all other things being equal.I am sure production numbers are important to collectors and some Korean war M1s were made in smaller numbers than WW2 Springfield's.Does refurbishment and re barreling hurt value a lot. My 1944 Springfield came with a beautiful new walnut stock and has a 1952 HR barrel. even though it is in very nice condition to a collector i am sure a un restored M1 with a decent stock and original barrel is worth much more.
all opinions welcome
