    Scoping a K31

I'm looking at getting the Swiss Products clamp on scope mount for my K31 but I'm not sure if I should get the steel or aluminum mount. The aluminum version is less expensive, but I'm not sure of its long term durability. What type are you using on your K31?

The scope I like so far is the Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 - it has a lot of positive reviews. Eye relief is good for this model too - 4.7-3.7". Will a set of low rings work with the mount? Is there a special ring type I should look for that holds up better than another or one that works better with the Swiss Products mount?

I'll be using this set-up for target shooting at 100-200 yards. Any other recommendations for this set-up?

I bought the aluminum one, we'll see how it works on Friday.

They say use those Warne 22lr rings the 5.3s?

For a x40 scope someone said to use the medium rings.

I'm putting a Vortex 4-12x40 on mine, but it was on sale at Aim Surplus for ~$170

Do you think I will need a cheek rest with medium rings? Did you get the Warner .22 rimfire rings for yours?

Midway has a sale on for $45 off $225 until Saturday so I figured the scope, rings, and a couple of other items I need should get me past the $225 threshold.

I have the steel one. Hasn't lost its zero in 5+ years and several range trips. worth the extra bucks IMHO.

Go for the Alu one, steel only adds needless weight to the right side of your rifle.
The steel mount is in production only because there is demand for it by shooters that believe in steel only.

Yup. We here at SP use only aluminum mounts. Why add the weight and add the extra $$'s?

I guess I do have a question. A fixed 6 power works great right out to 400 yards anyway, so why get and install a scope with a high power variable and large Objective lens?
I can shoot those distances with a fixed 6 with great accuracy and, better yet, no cheek pad required.

The lower the scope is to the axis of the bore, the better by far. This is one of my own load data rifles. Perfect sized compact scope and small objective lens. This one is a Leupold.

#100 on the alum mount. Have two, never had an issue, always hold zero

This might give you a idea:

Yeah, those are mine. Strangley enough, I have both rails on the load data rifles and I do comparatives with each sight, same load. Both of the load data rifles are set up like that. This particular one has one of the early prototype Steel D/Ts that is extra long.

Latigo, what model is the scope you have? I looked around and I didn't see a model like the one you have. The closest looking one was a VX Hog Rifle scope 1-4x20mm. 40mm seems to be the smallest size I can find in my price range.

I'll have to go out to the armory after work. I can't remember. It's from something like 1987 or so.
                          Any fixed 6 works great.

Based on Latigo's recommendations I bought the aluminum clamp on mount. I am left handed but from what I have read it should work OK. I am glad to hear that a fixed power older scope is the ideal glass because I don't want it to cost more than the gun. I do love my 2 Swissys though. Most amazing trigger I've ever seen on a military rifle.
