Why not a T38? Wrong time period? I'm just curious

I believe they do exist, they're just extremely rare. They they "technically" aren't SA marked, just S instead

T35 should be added to the list as well.

The Finns had an amazing array of different caliber guns. I would imagine keeping ammo supplies for some of them might have been a little difficult.

At what point did the Finns stop stamping SA on their guns? Was it after WWII?

Actually, using Google and Gunboards, there are more than the "3-4 known to exist" so they aren't THAT rare. Saw at least 5 or so on a single thread, granted they were 1943 M44s. I think the 3-4 is more accurate for the 1944 M44s.

Seeing 5 in a thread on gunboards could actually mean only 5 are known to exist... that is where the heavy hitters of Mosin collecting hang out.

I've got a 1943 M38 that is SA stamped. I've never seen another one:

4 on the thread from 2007. Only a few thousand in existence means it's much more common than perceived which means there's a shot with some searching and diligence. Besides, it gives me an excuse to examine something I wouldn't even think twice about before passing over.

That M38 is a find and a late date for captures to boot.

Far less than a few thousand, that we can be sure of. I recall seeing Finnish inventory records from the 50's, they had ~800-900 soviet carbines, and most of those were M38s. I'll see if I can find those numbers.
