Now the price of all M44-variants is going up.

I play with my bayonets a lot.
If it was a Type 53, it would be somewhat anachronistic since there weren't that many Type 53s imported at the time of season one. It's almost (but not quite) like someone driving around TWD in a 2012 model car.

I don't think that they pay quite THAT much attention to detail since I did spot an AR without rear sight being carried in this episode as well

The estucheons on the rifle along with the stock lend the most credence to it being at T53 as most M44s were in blonde or laminate stocks by the time the estucheons shown in the clip were being used. It could also be a beat to hell Polish M44 which is probable, but I doubt it since it looks like a classic T53 beater which would be slightly easier for a prop company to come by. That's my best reasoning without going frame by frame.

Considering all the gaffes they make with their firearms (take a close look, several of their Ar's are missing sights) the last thing I'd expect of them is to keep shipment dates in mind when it comes to what they're packing. Most likely they were filming around the time we started getting crates of T53s in which made it the crusty beat to hell new addition to the show's armorer's wall. That timing works out perfectly.

            Lol - it's a t.v. show about zombies. Don't worry about reality.

Btw- the green Hyundai Tucson first driven by Shane in season 2 is a 2011 model.

I caught that too, I can't believe this season is almost over!

The first thing that happens to any rifle with a shellac finish is that over time and zombie fighting, all that shellac flakes off and is replaced by the Blood and Sweat finish you commonly find on well used M-44s or T53s. In the close up you see the bayonet lug is Type 2, but that just means it is a slightly more rare (read: not by much) post '45 manufacture, or made by any other country than Russia.

So it could be either. But I was so happy when he got up and flipped out that bayonet. Perfect zombie weapon, now if only he took some scavenged dog collars and rigged a sling.

That's what I was thinking too. How convenient for zombie hunters to receive crates of Type 53s. Makes me want to buy more of them ...

Rifle type aside (I think it was an M44 as the non-refurbs I've had are super easy to deploy), the tactics displayed here are HORRIBLE. Talk about "friendly fire!"

I remember seeing it again when the claimers went into the garage to spend the night. Just imagine how loud that rifle would be if they had to fire it indoors.

Nagant - Perfect for the Undead with ZombieMax projectiles

I have some 7.62 x 54R with silver tips. Does silver stop zombies or is that just werewolves? I need to load up some 7.62 x 54R with ZombieMax projectiles. Then its the perfect rifle.

Exactly. The lack of a sling on the Mosin just looks all manner of wrong.

Even at the end of the world this would not be too hard to manage...

Nobody cares how you feel about the show. That scene with the M44 was great for milsurp collectors who noticed it and cool producers put it in as part of the show.

Especially the scene in this last episode where they "cleared" the building. Had anyone fired a shot it probably would have been in the back of someone's head considering how badly they were sweeping each other.
