Saw those too. Looked clean, but having to deal with and find the bayonet turned me off. Still trying to convince myself to pursue the Norinco stuff because it takes extra effort with the FFL01 requirement.

If you have a good receiving FFL it is easy. My FFL charges $50 total for transfer and DROS. Most Chinese SKS rifles are not C&R so it is unavoidable.

On a lighter note, the Albanian is coming straight to me, C&R eligible now.

I'm not concerned with NVA or NVA versions. Impossible to find and prohibitively expensive. The last NK on GB was deemed a fake by the guys on SKSboards.

        Lets stick to attainable unicorns:
        1949 Russian
        Spike Russian
        Nice matching Albanian
Nice matching Sino-Soviets that aren't thrashed
        Nice matching Romanians
        Minty PAP59

Any of the above would be collectible and a fine addition to any collection.

Still trying to find that one shop/FFL that will cut me a break instead of the $65 - $100 transfers I've been seeing. Still got more schmoozing to do before I find my guy.

Word. I'd almost be afraid to run across one of the "real" unicorns at this point as I'd be tempted to get into a financial bind and/or destroy its value. Maybe when I start using $100's to light my cigars.

I don't smoke and I don't have any $100's anymore.. Not after this latest gun binge.

I predict that rifle won't sell at that price because it is basically destroyed. With $1500 to burn I'd buy a couple of minty Tulas and some ammo.

There are several decent looking Albanians posted on GB right now, if anyone is interested. The Alby can be sent right to your casa if you have a fat friend named Cloe.

They shoot better with the bayonet off anyway.

Have you done side by side testing, with the same rifle and ammo under the same conditions?

I'm not doubting you, just curious. My SKS rifles are all plinkers and I'll plead vanity in that I detest the way they look without the bayonet. If what you are saying is true, I'll never know because they all seem to shoot minute of pie plate at 75-100 yards with cheap ammo and I am quite content with that.

I haven't done any recent testing with it. Years ago I was shooting it and an older shooting friend told me. "You'll shoot a lot better if you take that bayonet off" So I did take it off and it did shoot a lot better. I haven't put it back on since, but so far it has been able to out shoot every SKS with bayonet it has shot against.

If you're in Sacramento, try The Gun Range off of Watt in N. Highlands. $25 + $25 DROS + tax.

You sure that's right? They charge $10 + $25 DROS for the PPT. Following their format, it would be $50 + $25 DROS for OOST which makes it $75, not $50. I'm sure I would've heard by now if there was someone doing it for $50 or less out the door.

So what's the collectibility of a paratrooper? Found one locally yesterday for $450 all matching, but missing the bayonet. Felt like a neat little gun, but, not having been made for or used in military/police service, I'm trying to find an excuse to get it since it doesn't fit my collector MO.

Yeah, that's what they charged me just last week. $25 transfer + $25 DROS + $16 tax ($200 gun)
