Hangfires?

Yup... Not a very long hangfire! More like you hear the firing pin drop than fraction of a second later... BANG.

I don't know if it's just that batch I got from my coworker or it's a common occurance.

Like other have mention, Yugo is far better choice.

Only surp 8mm I've ever shot is the Yugo M75 and the other Yugo one out there (forget the nomenclature). No issues. But was going to buy some of the Iranian until I heard there were hangfires on it. :/

This Romanian that's out now seems pretty decent sounds like? I may have to get some.

I did come across that, but wasn't including it in my search as I've heard nothing good about Iranian 8mm surplus. Other than the tidbits of here and there 8mm being sold by private partys, I'm thinking the CTD Romanian would be the most reliable for the best price.

Yeah, there's no way that happened, sorry. Neither the case nor the tin at $90 was offered in 2012.

The last I recall it being offered at AIM surplus was 99.95 for a TIN of 380rds in Sept 2010.

Are you suggesting that people come onto Calguns and post tall tales about dirt cheap ammo and incredible deals that they swoop on that nobody else hears of? As if people need to post BS to make themselves seem more clever or more shrewd than the rest of the dullards who stupidly buy ammo at regular prices?

Or people that posted mocking boasts about the mountains of ammo they acquired cheaply even during the panic and ridiculed anyone who would pay more than $15 for a brick of .22 even when literally no one had any to sell anywhere?

8mm ammo

This is a new caliber to me, and I don't really know what's a good deal and what isn't. Is this pretty much as cheap as it's going to get? http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/AMM-858

Stuff has steel in the bullet. Good to know if your local range won't allow it. I bought some for the desert. It's good ammo. Shoots well.

I bought some of this Persian ammo, 9 out of 10 shots were hang fires. You pull the trigger and almost a second later it would go off. I sent it back. I can imagine thinking the round was a dude and instead a hang fire and it would go off as I was opening the bolt. About 4 years ago when it was still around, I bought that Yugo ammo that was abundant. It was made in 1953. Fantastic ammo, I've shot 100's of it and never had one failure.

Same....Yugo ammo works great. I am going to shoot some Yugo, Turkish, and Romy out of a couple different Mausers this weekend, and I will post up how they shoot.

The best 8X57mm surplus ammo I ever shot was the Hirtenberger 197gr FMJ. Full power loads and very accurate. Unfortunately the supply of that ammo has long ago dried up

The ammo Samco has is pretty bad to say the least. It was made in the mid thirties, and probably had so so storage. 8mm ammo was dirt cheap for almost ten years, from mid nineties, to mid 2000's. I bought the Romanian from InterOrdnance for 30.00 a can. The Turk went to around 4c a round if you bought in quantity. The Greek from the 1939 batch came in around w/ the 1940 Yugo w/ clips and king's stamp for 5c a round when Century put it on special. If you stocked up back then you are in great shape, but now the 8mm is pretty much gone the way of 303, and 8x56R. It's around, but you are now looking at 50c to 60c for surplus, and MiWall sells the Privi at gun shows for $20 a box plus tax.

We regularly shoot a mix of 8mm on our range days.

I recommend Yugo, German (WW2* and post-war) and Romanian.
*I collect the WW2 ammo now, but when we started shooting, loose rounds were fair game, now even those are collectable, lol.

I did not like shooting the Turkish, Egyptian or Iranian 8mm - as previously mentioned there are hang fires and mis-fires (requiring a second strike), and some loads that felt massively overpowered, leaving the bolt locked shut and your shoulder throbbing - never a good thing.

Also, in our little plinking group there are a number of valuable semi-auto 8mm's that could be damaged by such rounds -

As late as 2007, I bought mid 50's Yugo 8x57 ammo for around 8 cents a round and mid 70's Yugo for $140 for a 900 round can.

I have picked up a bunch of 8mm ammo in the last 2 days from sellers in the CG marketplace. I already have a lot but I am trying to future proof my Mauser collection for future shooting trips if the supply dries up. Between yesterday and today i added 775 rounds to the stockpile, a mixture of Yugo, Turkish, and Egyptian. My K98's eat everything fine, but the Yugo Mauser bolt gets a little sticky with rounds that (I presume) are hotly loaded. Been lucky in having only 1-2 duds in shooting hundreds of rounds through my Mausers.
