I'm a full member so find me and we'll head back.

      PU AK

It is sunday and am down to 1 1/2 days before i pick up my AK. I am like a 7 year old on Christmas Eve. I hope i never stop getting this way over my guns.
i have read every thing i can about them. in my mind i have cleaned and inspected the markings a 100 times over the last week. this is a great hobby.I have been repressing the thought of buying one over the last 2 years and finally i just decided i wanted one. it helps to be a SKS fan and have plenty of ammo.

My friend had a 1961 ford falcon 6 cyl and 3 speed stick. it would run forever. sometimes he would not put oil in it until the oil light stayed on. it just worked. run a modern engine without oil for a minute and see what happens.

If it needs batteries, I'm not interested. There is a reason you usually don't see AR's in the African bush. A truly SHTF situation. It's mostly AK, FAL and G3.

My buddy's dad had the Falcon station wagon with three on the tree and the 6, drove it for thirty years, it was bullet proof. I wish I could have it today.

IMO the biggest problem with the AR is not the mechanics - it's the aluminum quota vs. long term intense humidity.
Seen the same issue in Africa, Thailand and South America.
          The receiver literally corrodes away.
We had one come apart in an actors' hands in Bangkok.
I kept the dailies (footage), as it was quite dramatic.

You planning on bringing it to the C&R?

                picked it up

i was wrong on the date . it is a 1976 Romanian G. looks like it has a new USA barrel. i do not think it has chrome lining in the chamber or barrel. No matter i have plenty of non corrosive ammo. the workmanship on the receiver is very good. i think Enterprise Arms bends their own plate. it has no markings under the receiver floor. I love the reddish- purple wood. i already did a complete take down and cleaning. i do not see any stampings or numbers on the gas piston. off to the WEGC shoot in 2 weeks.

My first AK - registered as an AW in 1999 - it never goes anywhere without registration papers.
Nothing special - just my first Kalashnikov - bought/built (Elk River Tool & Die.)

It hasn't shot live ammo in ten years if I were to hazard a guess (regrettably I don't get much actual range time and really have to be picky about live ammo I choose to keep - it's stored separately from the blank ammo which takes up considerable room), but it has NEVER jammed with blanks (Russian, Chinese and unknown) and it has gone through thousands upon thousands of rounds.
(Not to mention dozens of actors, movies and TV jobs.)

No other automatic (semi/full) I have owned/rented has this record.
Consistent blank fire is usually more difficult than live fire - these guns were designed for live ammo - if this weapon's reliability is to be judged by that standard, it's darn near indestructible

I like the classic lines, doubtful if there is now a more recognizable silhouette - it is IMHO 100% worthy of curio and relic status, but I'm not the one who writes the books, thankfully, as the book would be quite full, lol -

if the world went pear shaped it would be my choice of sidearm - it weighs less than the MG42.

                    better ?

My 2c over these AKs. nothing wrong with a Century or parts kit AK. I have no problem others spending a lot more than i did and thinking theirs is special. But i do not think people that have them should slam these other AKs as inferior.Personally i would rather have a parts kit [ military speck parts ] put together than a AK made recently with all new parts for the commercial market with profit as the goal.My personal taste ONLY i do not like tactical style AKs . But a lot of AK owners do and that is perfectly ok.

Same here, I prefer a demilled military parts kit.

                        shot it

i took the AK to the WEGC C&R shoot today. i shot every 7.62-39 round i brought [ over 100 ] no malfunctions .a snap to clean later. Yes i know cleaning a AK is a waste of time. I cant help myself.
