    AK & CR

not much here in C & R about AKs. i guess it is because complete AKs [ full auto] are illegal. so my 2c is i am sure their is a little interest in as close to original AK s as possible. plenty of other posts in simi auto rifle forum for the tricked out tactical guys .
i like AKs as they were originally designed. maybe a few bolt on parts that can be put back . to me a AK with beautiful wood is good enough. i would be interested in posts from other AK owners that also just want a ordinary AK. the one i just got is a Romanian parts kit turned into a AK by Enterprise Arms. it is a Ser # AK but not a Century or other major importer. it is in jail for 5 more days. I am very excited to get my first AK. i shot a couple at the mosin WEGC shoot and liked them a lot. I got to shoot a tricked out SAGA and it was very cool.

There are plenty of legally owned full auto AK's.

There are C&R machinegun AK47's - have fun and look up their prices - the last I saw sell was online - $50K plus.

Many collectors on this forum have almost classic semi AK variants.
(All parts except receiver and full auto parts)
They are not strictly speaking C&R as the receiver is replaced.

Looking forward to seeing your retro Ak rig - in my opinion they are a genuinely interesting collectors piece when left in the cold war specifications

Here's a pic of the AKs and a PSL we've built. They're all built on semiauto receivers. Would love to have a full auto, but $50K, Not sure if full auto is legal in Cali anyway.
Fun and cheap to shoot. Everybody should have one while its still legal.
        Because milsurp.

          Nice looking AKs Paulie.

Full auto is only legal in Ca. with a DOJ Dangerous Weapons Permit + CLEO sign off or a Trust. The only way you are getting a DWP is if you provide props to film companies or if you build/sell and demo MGs for government and LEOs. Not going to happen for anyone except a chosen few in this state.

OTOH, move over the border to a free state like Arizona and you could have an MG within 12 months.

I recall a few years back. Like maybe 7 years ago there was a giant thread about old AKs. It was dudes who were in Iraq taking pictures of their old rifles they had confiscated. Someone provided a ton of information. I can't remember if it was this forum or another.

The soldier also had like 7 "personal" ak's. Full auto Romanian, Iraqi, yugos, and even Russian rifles. He took a buch of pictures and posted lots of information. Hope that helps.

Funny story. I was in Iraq in 2009 we were out doing patrol and found 2 buried Chinese SKS's. My PL calls them up and report that we have just found two buried M1 Garands. Lololol. I laughed and was the only one who corrected him. He gets back on the radio and says "correction I've just been informed these are 'Sks' rifles. Not m1 garands." They were really old beat to hell rifles. Well used.

I MAY have some really cool pictures somewhere in my email of the rifles we blew up. I need to search for them.

I enjoy the process of building them and getting ones from different countries, styles etc.

They are fun to shoot, cheap to shoot and accurate. I think everyone should own a couple

I built a Romy kit using a flat. It came out pretty nice and shoots well. I also have a Yugo UF kit that needs a milled receiver. Maybe someday when I'm flush, I'll get that one done.

That being said, I am not all that impressed with the AK. I know it reliably does it's job, blah, blah, blah... I'm just not a big fan of the commie stuff.

I am opposite too I love them all even the AR platform. AK Variants that we can have in Cali to the AR's we're also allowed to the C & R's that just make the day so different when out on the range. But we all have out favorite AK type rifle so here it is. Thanks NOTABIKER for keeping an open mind and in 5 days you'll learn to do that AK body thing

Please do not connet this rifle to the Las Vegas rifles. They are not the same.

I think what turns me off to the commie stuff isn't so much that they are commie, but more the lack of craftsmanship. Everything I have from commie manufacturers is rough looking, rough finished, etc. even my Bakial Makorov has lousy finish work. I just don't feel the pride in workmanship shows in any of them.

I still appreciate them as part of my collection though.

being a auto mechanic i love mechanical devices of all types. what impresses me is simple quality that works. a basic Toyota corolla is one of the best cars ever made for simple quality. it works. same with commie guns. i put my 1903A3 WW 2 rifle next to my russian 91-30 and no mater how much better the 1903A3 is put together the mosin gets the job done. My friend had a 1961 ford falcon 6 cyl and 3 speed stick. it would run forever. sometimes he would not put oil in it until the oil light stayed on. it just worked. run a modern engine without oil for a minute and see what happens.

Quantity instead of craftsmanship was higher on their agenda. As long as they worked, I don't think anyone cared too much about how well they were finished. They were built to get the job done, not to look nice. Also the commie mentality stifled creativity so no one was trying to make it better, they just did what they were told to do.
