The FN action is worth a lot more than $150; "look before you paint." And, by the way, there never was a "Bluebook" that was very useful in pricing firearms. The large "Fjestad" Bluebook is useful for identifying some guns, and the section on grading condition by % is helpful, but prices???? Naaaah.
The only way to price guns is to look at the actual prices they have SOLD for in a market as near to your time and place of sale as you can. One of the reasons we're all HERE at Calguns, isn't it?
Blanket statements like "no collector value to J.C. Higgins" are a good clue that the source is clueLESS. FN? Winchester? AyA? Some value there, and some collectors, too.
About the only useful generality in gun collecting is what the Savage guys say: "Savage? NEVER say never!"
Anyway, you got you a diamond in the rough--good catch!
