    $150 .270 Fair or Overpaid?

I got this 1950s Jc higgins .270 Model 50 from a friends cousin who needed some cash for $150. Came with 25 rounds. I looked it up in the blue book of guns but it says there is no collector value for any jc higgins lol. It showed a some wear so I decided to paint it camo. Action locks up tight and the trigger pull is lighter than any of my other rifles. Good value? What are these worth?

Judging from recent sale of one in camo I'd say $150. Look on gunbroker.com search higgins 50 - I think you'll like the results.

great rifles and who cares what it's worth, you'd easily get your money out of it and then some if you decided to sell it, but if it shoots, keep it.

I didnt get it to flip. Ive never owned a hunting type rifle so Im going to keep it. Found a weaver scope base on midway for $7. Any recommendations on am inexpensive high powered scope? like 6x24?

No you shouldn't have. I see JC Higgins scopes & stuff going for crazy high prices on ebay. I imagine JC Higgins rifle's would do the same.

Yeah, the paint is a crime and a mistake. Hopefully you didn't sand or strip the original finish off the metal, and can restore it to original without too much work. Note: "restore" does not mean "cold blue".

Something like a vintage Weaver K4 would make an excellent and period appropriate scope for this.

to me it seemed like a $150 gun. At $200 I probably would of passed

not sure you can't even find a new production gun under 300 anymore.

Should post a warning prior to the pictures.

LOL I don't really look at it as hate. I just look at it as someone got a rifle that would have been good deal at $200 & made sure it stays a $150 rifle. I think at the minimum you could have doubled your money on it before you painted it.
