It was all legal then. .223 was $1.99 a box. Many of us have experienced a time when CA was part of the true American Union. It was good times I can tell you.
    Loved that show!!

Glory days of CA. I cherish my smith model 10 that my dad bought me new at a liquor store in Norco and walked out with the same time.

I NEVER thought I'd see the day (even with all the CA gun laws) that that same old school 6 gun (or any revolver) would be banned for purchase here..

I could kick myself why I didn't invest a few thousand dollars into C&Rs 10-20 years ago. I had a couple of shotguns and a few handguns then, but didn't even own a rifle. I could have been lining my safe with pristine $99.00 SKSs, beautiful Mausers of every flavor and quite a few Garands, back when they were inexpensive. Hindsight is 20/20.

I'm with Bobby. I plan to leave the state as soon as I can but realistically that could be 10-15 years. All I can say is if you are going to stay in California, think creatively about where you keep your guns and ammo, diversify, build 80%ers while you can, and I agree, buy all of the C&Rs you can afford, they are generally a good investment if you don't overpay for them. I thought I was smart buying a few M44s last year for $199.00 but I have seen the same recently at Classic and J&G for as little as $129.00. You win some, you lose some, but I am still convinced that in 5-10 years, those M44s will prove to have been a good investment.

I wholeheartedly agree with the poster who said "Get your C&R/FFL03 and COE".
With a current CMP membership and those documents on file with them they will continue to ship directly to your door. And yes, you will have to pay the $19 and send in the voluntary registration form. But hey! They're still coming to your door !
As for the "Cash and Carry", with those documents it was my understanding that you could still to FTF without a FFL (for C&R rifles) but were required to register them. Wrong? In any case, even if they have to be DROS'd at an FFL (C&R handguns and rifles) with the C&R/COE you can still walk out with them and no 10 day wait. Still close to C&C.
And aren't antiques (pre 1899 ?) still C&C ? Voluntary registration probably applies though, not sure.

Prior to 2009, I owned 1 870 HD shotgun, 1 Mini 14, and 2 handguns (plus my duty weapon, which I don't 'own'). I had a few boxes of buck, maybe 100 rds each of .223 and 9mm. I considered myself 'well armed'. I reluctantly bought an overpriced AR during the presidential election panic in late 2008 when they were hard to get and super expensive. My how things have changed. I used to have spending money too. Now it all feeds the beast that is my 'collection'.

Yes this new year - new law put a blight on the for sale section. I only look at the ammo for sale. It's a shame, and I too used to go to the Pomona gun show with my dad as well. I fondly remember him buying me a dud pineapple grenade the first time we went. As always there will be more to come.
                  Cheers

                    "build 80%ers while you can,"

I think there is a legislator trying to pass a law requiring serial numbers and resigistration of homebuilts now aswell. As California becomes more and more of a lefty one party state, I'm afraid we haven't seen the worst of it yet.
                    Because milsurp.

I also got into this hobby very late, But last year i mostly got the C&R i really want. I can live without more guns. My problem is elected people telling a 66 year old that has never been in trouble with the law i cant buy something i can buy in about 47 states because fools voted them into office. CA is a beautiful state with just about the best climate in the world. But a small % of the people are ruining our lives with their BS trains and anti business climate.

After swearing off any 2014 long guns, I just sent off the registration form and $19 for 2 M91/30's and 2 SKS acquired this year.
