Yes I agree with the long brass rod mentioned. You need something very solid to get it out. Brass is soft and won't damage barrel. Smack that rod hard it'll come out.

what ever you do, do not put and liquids in the bore. The wood will swell.

Long drill rod inside a copper tubing sleeve. Might be able to nibble away at it.

This why when newbies (like the OP's 'numbskull') ask questions about barrel cleaning I always chime in: "Get a sturdy one-piece steel rod".

          Good luck.

Do you have access to a press? Use a sturdy brass rod smaller than the bore, put it in a press barrel end down and press it out slowly. 10 tons of press force will push it out. Once it is partially out it will probably be easy to put the dowel in a vice and pull it out the rest of the way.

Lacking a press, try the same thing with a rubber mallet ( just in case you miss). I'd definitely come at it from the receiver end for two reasons: first, less likely to damage the muzzle; second, you won't need to clear the 6" of receiver before being able to get a grip on the dowel to try pulling it out once you have it moving.

Good luck - I hope the barrel is okay under the wood in there.

I would just get a sturdy metal rod. Stick it down the barrel and them hit it with a hammer a couple of times.

If the rod doesn't loosen it, maybe the rod will put a hole in it or crack the wood. That will loosen it.

Air pressure? 120 PSI applied to the muzzle may get it moving.

Let's not get too heated guys. I am concerned with any method that might possibly swell the wood and make it even more of a booger to get out. Heating the barrel and then trying my luck with a brass rod might be my first attempt. But where can I get a brass rod that'll fit in a .30 caliber rifle? Mind you the Mosin barrel has been counterbored.

Put a blank in it and fire. If the chamber is clear, awesome. if its not you should still be able to fit a case with no bulet in there

heat the barrel and pound out.

Why is the water bad? Not just because it will swell the wood and make it harder to remove. No, swelling the wood can potentially destroy your barrel.

We laugh at wood vs metal or stone but wood + Water splitting has been used to carve multi-ton blocks of the hardest stone since the bronze age. It works slowly but it can bend steel and fracture stone.
...but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.

Brass rod like pigman pictured. And you want it to fit the bore, anything smaller will cause the dowel to wedge tighter. If the rod isn't as big as the bore, find something that is, and hard enough not to deform when you pound on it. Put it between the brass rod and the dowel. Drive it out the opposite way it went in.
Do not use any kind of moisture or lubricant on the dowel, it will swell.
