March 29- April 5, 2019- The Million Mag March. Thank you, Judge Benitez and all the vendors

Well, it was a fun day. My brother and dad loved it. My dad's shoulder was already sore from yardwork, so he stopped early
Competition never happened, but no big. I shot holes in my mild steel targets
Had some feeding problems for some reason. My Mosin would chamber a round, but I couldn't get the bolt to go down, so I'd have to pull the bolt back, use a cleaning rod down the barrel to tap the round out, then try it again. Happened prob 10 times. I had it happen 3 times on my Mauser
SVT had a couple of magazine feed issues, but wasn't horrible
Worst was my brand new Nagant revolver flared the casings just a bit too much, and the cases are now stuck in their chambers, so I'll have to tap them out with a rod and hammer. I prob will not fire it that much now just because it'll be so labor intensive to get the casings out, I won't want to shoot it much, which is too bad coz those 7rnds were fun
EDIT: found out that there could be burrs on the chamber and to carefully file them down. Have read a few other people have had this problem as well, but mine is 6 out of 7 won't eject
Thanks, NOTABIKER, for sharing your PU Mosin. And I also got to shoot that .50 rifle. Man, that was cool. EDIT2: And Jamie shooting your MAC10Last edited by Armistice; 08-25-2013, 5:01 PM.March 29- April 5, 2019- The Million Mag March. Thank you, Judge Benitez and all the vendors

MackMan myself and I forgot his handle but the three of us had a mini match. It was fun, I got 7 out of 8 hits on Notabiker's steel with HXP out of my new to me '43 Garand and 4 out of 5 out of my M38 Mosin. I was surprised the little M38 did so well.. These things are filled with good people who offer to let you shoot their awesome guns. Got to send a few down range on baboosh's .50 cal too. That was a highlight for sure. Another successful shoot gentlemen. Looking forward to the next one. It was nice meeting a bunch of you. Wish my PSL was behaving better, but I didn't have all contingencies planned for and you know how that goes. It ate a lot of my time when I probably should have been socializing and shooting down at the far end. Baboosh...thanks for bringing out the .50! target
well back to the drawing board on the steel target. it did make it threw the day and the plate stood up to everything thrown at it. well i did not let the 50 cal shoot my 3/8 thick AR 500 plate. we all know what would happen at 100 yards
.
my 1903A3 Mosin PU and my trusty 1955 Romanian M-44 all worked properly and managed to hit the plate most of the time. so many nice rifles today. sure do like SVT 40s. the M 2 50 cal and the 50 cal sniper were fantastic.
everybody was so nice to let others enjoy their guns.
September here we come. and thank you to eagle eye and his family for bringing donuts and coffee.Last edited by NOTABIKER; 08-26-2013, 6:39 AM.Comment

I had a good time. I didn't seem to get into the click of people, but I am not always real outgoing anyways. I was waiting for the competition, since I love to shoot pistol and 3 gun competitions or even just play HORSE with my brother and friends when we go out.
I set up my 12"x1/2" AR 500 plate (round and painted green) to the left of the group, at 100 yards. I was there at 8 am and got to see the deer walking across the range. I don't think I have seen deer around here before, and I have always lived in this area. I saw a deer after leaving the gate of the range as well. It may have been the same one.
Of course my 3 gun AR 15 was dialed in. I haven't sighted it in on paper, but put almost all of my shots on steel when resting on the sandbag. It has a Cmore red dot with no magnification.
The 30-06 Winchester 54 from 1926 was very accurate as well. I shot mostly 150 jsp bullets over 13.0 grains of red dot, for a velocity of 1400 fps. It was very quiet compared to all the other big boys, due to the reduced load, but it was right on the money for 100 yards. I had a couple rounds of mid velocity ammo to burn up and they also impacted the target. This gun belonged to my grandfather who was born in 1900. I also had the saddle holster/scabbard with me that he kept that rifle in while hunting from horseback, but I kept it in the back of my K5 blazer (white with 6" lift and big tires).
The Winchester 30-30 lever action was dialed in for my 1116 fps plinking load with cast boolits. It is very easy on the shoulder and easy on the wallet at $4 or so for 100 rounds of ammo. The sights on it are not as fine as the peephole sights on the 30-06. I have to aim more carefully. The full power loads had a different point of impact, so I wasn't as successful with those. I had to put the lever action away early because a case neck broke off and stayed in the chamber. I didn't have a cleaning rod and didn't really want to mess with it at the range anyway, otherwise I would have asked someone to borrow one.
Today was only my second time shooting the M1 30 Carbine. It belongs to my other grandfather. It was doing very well at 100 yards with peephole sights. I don't know if they are even adjustable other than flipping the L shaped rear sight to make it higher. I just had to aim to the top left of the 12" plate. I was able to ring the plate over and over. I had two different loads that my grandfather had loaded up. One shot better than the other. I am very particular about my loading, so I look forward to shooting my own loads from that gun. Unfortunately, the little nubs on the back of one of the mags wore down so that the mag would not stay seated and aligned in the rifle. The second mag has a little spot worn, but is still useable. I don't know if they could have been assembled incorrectly after being taken apart or if it is just a fluke or maybe the ammo. I need to find some more mags for this gun.
Today was my first time using the main range. I usually shoot the rifles from the 200 yard pad in the back. The elevation is downhill to the 100 yard line, back there. I was happy to see that my sights were pretty close......minute of 12" plate at least. I hadn't shot rifles much at 100+ yards until I joined WEGC in January. I am still a newb when it comes to rifles, but I am happy to be able to hit the target I had today with iron sights and bigger targets out to 230 yards when shooting out back. I was also glad to see that the target stands (only used one today) I made held up well. I had to use a sledge hammer to get it out of the ground.
It is too bad that others had targets fall over. That is a bummer to wait for another line break. I also saw the steel plates with holes in them, Armistice. I thought that they may have been AR steel and someone used AP or steel core. I was a little worried that someone might beat up my plate with some wild rounds. Those holes were awfully clean. Was that from a 50 cal or 30 cal?
I have shot mild steel with full power 30-06 loads, but copper jacketed bullets won't go through the 5/8" mild steel that I used. It does leave a big crater and bulge on the back. I did hit my 3/8" mild still spinner once or twice. It went right through. Luckily a welder and grinder make quick work of the holes, and I didn't do that again once fixed.
That was a good weekend. 22 pistol competition on Saturday morning and C&R shoot on Sunday. Now I have brass to clean and a bunch of reloading to do........and I almost forgot-some guns that need cleaned.
I felt a little small with all those mosins and garands sitting in the racks. My rifles didn't even extend past the top of the rack and the others stuck out a foot or more. Oh well.......It's not how big your worm is, but how you jiggle it.

Armistice was using x54r and I am guessing 8mm and -06 on his mild steel and I don't think they were quite 5/8th inch. Yeah there were a few clean holes in those plates, I would have loved to see what the .50 cal would have done.I had a good time. Chris you had the misfortune of parking next to me, putting two not so outgoing guys together is a great recipe for keeping to yourself. I really wanted to shoot that 30-30 too but I don't like asking to use another's guns if I don't have rounds for it. Thanks for the spray paint by the way."These surplus guns are cool not because they go Pew, but because where and when they have Pew'd"
