    Got an Ishapore Rifle 2A1!

Will be picking it up next Thursday before close at Grant Boys. I walked in randomly last Sunday before going to a party in Newport, saw an SMLE with a box magazine, knew it must be a 2A1. Price was 300 even. Could not say no. Would not have bought it if it was 500 or 303 caliber.

Can't wait. This is my first Enfield style rifle and I have never worked on this platform before. Yes to Mausers, ARs, and Benellis.

Any suggestions on good links for how to field strip?

How to remove the black protective paint and what is the best oil to use for its stock?

Pics will be posted shortly after I take delivery.

Wood / stock - Turps and Boiled linseed oil mixed 50 /50 rubbed on with the with the finest Steel wool (0000).
Paint - leave it on that's the military finish.
Field Stripping - take out the bolt, clean and oil and put it back after cleaning the barrel - that's it.

Just picked up one about a month ago, absolutely beautiful. Probably one of my favorite rifles. Very accurate, not to bad on the recoil. I would leave the paint on, it's the military finish and part of it's history.

I have one and it is near pristine. The stock is a nice dark cherry color.

        As for yours:

LEAVE the black paint. That is what the Indians painted it with. That is original.

Like everyone is saying, the dark paint is original. Best to leave it that way.

Duly noted on the black paint

Is rung oil or blo good for the Indian wood? Looks similar to satisaal wood on my khukuri handles

12 round box mag? Are they selling as a rebuild kit? And like everyone else is saying: leave it be. The black paint actually does a good job of protecting the metal IMO.

I was wondering about the mag capacity too. Mine is a 12 rounder and advertised as such when I bought the rifle a long time ago.

Just in case you do decide to clean it, I would avoid the steel wool. I think it was TRAP who pointed out (when I asked a similar question) that steel wool will leave behind tiny shards/fibers that will rust and stain the wood/metal.

Instead use burlap, and don't be afraid to put some elbow grease into it. Worked wonders for me.

Need to oil mine this weekend. Has one of the prettiest stocks I have ever seen on a Military rifle.

My 2A1 is a great shooter. Some have feeding problems and ejection problems, the ejection problems due to a weak extractor spring. I haven't seen one yet with a bad bore. All were carried more than shot.

Nice to see others appreciating the 2A1. Always liked them, especially since they shoot 7.62 NATO. Have shot it several times and it is great fun.

Here's mine...frequently there is nice wood hiding under that grime and oil!

I got one a couple years ago that Bubba butchered the furniture, lost some parts. I saved it as best I could with what I could scounge up. At first I was going to bring it back, but since then I've just kept it as is. It's way on the back burner to restore because it shoots pretty good. I call it the Kyber Pass Regulator, PAX
