2014 Changes: still worth even having a C&R?

hi all,

well i'm back from switzerland and getting set back up, and am looking at getting back to buying stuff. Went to Krausewerk in San Mateo last weekend, saw some great pieces. THe guy runnign the place seemed super nice too and chatty, even though he was talking with two knucklehead kids about to ship off to basic who couldnt shut up for 2seconds so i barely got to speak to him. But i digress...

SO i got my C&R paperwork all put together (my old one had lapsed while i was overseas) and then the thought occured to me, what's the point? Ok, a few discounts for C&R holders but ... meh...

As of 2014, everything has to get sent to a Gunstore when bought, whats the point? If there are no more F2F or mail order to your house (is this correct?), doesnt seem like its even worth the hassle.

Is my info correct about next years changes, and if so, do good reasons still exist for having an C&R License? I was trying to get the info out of harmoniums but he's a nefarious ne'er do well and sexual deviant of the highest order and as such was little help.

No, you can still get C&R rifles sent to you house, you just need to get your COE and register them when they arrive. You can also still bring back C&R guns from out of state.

Regarding COE. It's tough enough getting some sellers to send to a C & R. More so getting them to send to a C & R in CA. As a practical matter we're now going to have to tell some sellers "it's OK, I've got a COE ....."

I can hear it already - "this smells fishy, I'm not sending you anything". Not saying it's right, but it's another challenge to overcome.

^^^ THIS...I'm going to guess that we'll see more and more people refuse to send to CA even if you have the COE just so they don't have to deal with it.

If you have a C&R FFL and a COE you will still be able to have C&R long guns shipped directly to you. And California's 50+ year old restriction goes away, so you'll be able to have C&R long guns of any age shipped directly to you. You will also be able to directly acquire C&R long guns of any age from private parties and other C&R FFLs inside California. You will have to pay a fee to self register these acquisitions.

If you have a C&R FFL but no COE then you will still be able to acquire C&R long guns and C&R handguns of any age while you are outside of California. You will have to register both the long guns and handguns when you return to California instead of just the handguns like you do now.

If you don't have a C&R FFL then you will no longer be able to do dealerless transfers of 50+ year old C&R long guns with other California residents.

As a heads up my app was received on 2-8 and I called and actually spoke to Yvette today, she pulled my app and said everything looked good but she won't do the background check until next week. So you are looking at probably 80 days to receive it

I'm so glad...I noticed that you emphasized that these weren't ordinary knuckleheads...but knuckleheads that were about to ship out for basic training. That must have really galled you.

No butthurt at all. I'm much too old to be shipping out for basic .

I just find it interesting that you went out of your way to tell us about the "knuckleheads" who were just about to ship out for basic training. I mean, you're the one who brought that into the story...you must have thought that it was relevant in some way.

Some people might find a person who moves back to this country and then insults the young people who guarantee the freedom that he enjoys to be...uh...maybe... an ungrateful jerk.
