My CMP Special got a tracking number Friday but must have missed the Fedex truck. The tracking number just shows as issued with no pickup record yet. So this will just be another boring Monday.

On the other hand I checked the e-store today and my HRA service grade is now also listed as shipped with a tracking number. Apparently I will have two packages showing up tomorrow.

Not too much cosmoline on the thing. Did a detailed tear down and found pretty much all HRA parts except for the bolt and trigger group.

Not too sure how to continue forward with the stock though, everything I read says to apply BLO or PTO, but that was for people completely refinishing their stocks, does the same apply if I'm not completely stripping it down to bare wood?

I just finished cleaning mine up this weekend. By the time I had got the wax or cosmo off of the stock it looked a little dry so I did the following:

• Used a heat gun to bring the cosmo up to the surface
• After removing the cosmo I wiped the stock down with odorless mineral spirits to remove the greasy feeling
• Apply BLO that I picked up from Ace and let sit for 15 minutes
• Wiped excess BLO off
• Waited a day and then applied BLO again with 0000 steel wool wiping softly with the grain
• Let sit again and removed excess

I think it came out really well, it still has the character but is a little richer.

Just got a call from the CMP asking if I would switch from a HRA SG to a Springfield SG. I said yes and he was to ship the rifle out this week! My DBU email was 4/22. He states that there is still a long back order on the HRA models.

As expect my HRA Service grade Garand came today. Tag says Muzzle = 1, Throat = 2+. Stock has its share of "character" with a couple of significant gouges. Metal is worn in parts. It was rebuilt at some point and the serials are not matching.

FWIW CMP never contacted me to ask if I wanted a SA Service grade instead. I got exactly what I ordered.

Unexpected was the fact that my CMP Special did not show. Fedex tracking shows it leaving Memphis but there is no arrival scan here in California. Will have to alert CMP. I would expect they get fast action from Fedex who won't want a firearm loose in their system.

Update- Fedex is telling me that the package was miss-sorted and will come tomorrow instead of today. The initial contact said they would investigate and let me know something tomorrow but as I suspected once they learned what was in the shipment (they asked) suddenly it was a priority to figure out what happened. I'll be checking the package carefully before I sign for it to make sure no one tried any funny business with it in transit.

Sent mine in last week, hopefully I get it before the new year. Was able to send in my app free of charge due to USPS not meeting their delivery guarantee, so I got my money back. Seems to be a good start to the process.

I would send in the application right away. There is a good chance you would receive it before 1/1/14. If you don't you'll be kicking yourself for not ordering one.
