    Well it would probably knock the piss out of me, but that was a AK and my SKS would never do that to me + there is just to much dam cool factor in that stock. I aint scared

      I'd make a short rifle out of it, aka "Paratrooper" in a tapco. Sportsmans Guide had barrels for 60 bucks. Cheap to have cut and recrowned when already off, if you can't do the work yourself. I've got a couple I worked over a little but could return to OG, but I don't know why I would. They're not going anywhere. The Para is my fav for handling and a great shooter, actually they're all good shooters. PAX

      Turn it into this
      You need a crew

        I think I'll just clean her up and keep it stock in the meantime. I want to save my money for a nice gun for my upcoming birthday.

        Now, I think I have an old 30-rd detachable magazine in my house somewhere from a long time ago.

        If I can just find it, and use it with the existing setup

          Nope, dont do that not legal. SKS can not have 30 rounders in them. Fixed or detachable.

            I believe its legal to run detachable mags. It is not a sks. Its is a model 59/66.

                  Bubba= NO

                  Just disassemble and thoroughly de-Cosmo that rifle and you will have battle rifle perfection as-is. Of course it is yours to do with whatever you like but in my opinion you will ruin it with all the aftermarket stuff.

                    I have to clean it though, it's still packed with cosmoline. Otherwise, it's in pretty good shape

                    I want to modernize it, perhaps get a new stock (with a pistolgrip) on it.

                    It should be a fun little project. Anyone else here owns an SKS? What have you done to yours? I need some ideas

                    Those stocks look great. Other than some goo from the cosmoline to remove (be gentle on the stocks) and a cleaned up trigger pull (there are many qualified smiths that can do that for less than $50) and possibly some improved sights (not necessary, but several choices exist), I think I'd leave it alone. There isn't a lot of value in those synthetic stocks with pistol grips. If you want an optic, there are ways to do that without going to extremes.

                        why would you scope a rifle that cant hit anything over 300 yards?

                        dont douchify your rifle. keep it as it was meant to be (typical C&R forum response i know). if you want a rifle with a scope on it... get one that was supposed to have it.

                          I can hit the 600 yard pig at angeles with my yugo with a scope. so what you say is false sir Granted its not all 10 shots that make it but 4-5.

                              I used to build these cars besides the ugly paint job that thing is bad azz! There is a lot of custom designed parts and hard work that goes into building something like this!

                                After reading this thread, it makes me want a nice, clean, bone stock SKS. Which variant is the best one to buy and what do they cost?
