Applying for a C&R?

I'm currently filling out the application for my C&R License, and I had a few issues: it says on the app that if I don't plan on using the guns for hunting, then I won't be approved...I have NO idea what they're talking about. A little help please?

I believe you must have the wrong application form. Did you request and receive a F7CR Application Form?

I believe that section is for people who aren't us citizens. #10 nonimmigrant alien certification of compliance.

Just go my application today and I can not find the question you mentioned above.

I am filling it out tomorrow, a quick question, the copy that is addressed to the CLEO (Chief Law Enforcement Officer), do I just take to the Sherriff and leave it there? or do I need something else? Instruction are not very clear on what to do.

Looks like some people haven't seen the form in a while. It's Section 10C under the "Nonimmigrant Alien Certification". Back of the first page.

Just find out the name of your local CLEO, and mail him a copy of the application with a cover letter which says something like this :


(maybe your real name would increase your chances of receiving the license).

The CLEO is not involved in the application process. The application is sent to keep on file.

One thing I've heard is that if the local police is called about an intruder / suspected intruder in your home, a warning comes up on their screens to tell them a FFL is filed an that address. Local PD will be at your door in a flash, and in force. I remember someone on Parallax Bill's C&R forum talking it about a while back, as it happened to them.

The CLEO doesn't approve or disapprove the application. However, if he/she has information on you that indicates you shouldn't be granted the license, they can forward that to the BATFE and the feds will make the decision.

same thing happened to my house when I was away on vacation. One of my window sensors fell off (double sided taped) & triggered the alarm. My neighbors asked if I was married to the police chief's daughter as within 3 minutes after they got the call from the alarm company, 6 units showed up with a Contra Costa Sheriff K-9 in tow. They did search the house with the dog. Never thought about it until you brought it up. Hmmmmmm!

I've got a question though. If you don't use your license for purchases and just use it for discounts, then you don't need to keep any logs. Now how would you prove that you never bought anything if they ever came to check on you?

Second question, what happens if you move, do you need to notify the CLEO in your new town?

Yes, apparently if you are burgled, you will get LE on your doorstep faster too, since firearms may have been stolen, it is seen as more of a priority.

You still need to obtain a bound book, even if you never make any C&R purchases. If you are audited and there are no entries in your bound book and no C&R guns, there's no problem.

Last question about CLEO, I don't know. I'm guessing no since your last CLEO had no objection, and the decision had already been made to grant you a FFL03. All I know is that you have to send this form to the ATF : www.atf.treas.gov/forms/pdfs/f530038.pdf.

Yes, that would make sense. In general though, if you are eligible to purchase a firearm, you are eligible to apply for a C&R license. There are no extra hoops to jump through unlike any other type of FFL or a CoE.
