        As your first pic of two shows. See it? Un-screw it. Slide it and the rear band forward. Now, raise your rear sight. And I hope you can see how to then remove the hand guard. Be patient grasshopper

            How did you manage to get the rear band off with the spring in place?
            i popped out the pin in the barrel band using a punch and hoppes oil, but still i cant get the barrel band off

                that wasnt a screw, that was a marking on the rifle, the other one was a pin

                        It can only come off one way, he will figure it out. I can say that mine was a pain to get off, I guess the wood soaked up a lot of cosmoline and swelled up, I took care of that but have not taken it appart since. I bought it 10 years ago but it stills oozes mausergrease every time I take it out.
