Mauser 48 Dissasembly, i need help!

i have a yugo m48, with a cracked hanguard, to get the handguard off, theres a lever i need to depress, if i depress the left side of the lever, the rings will slide to the end, and that depression should also release the right side, which releases another metal part holding the handguard in place. mine DOES NOT release the right side, so i cant get the cracked handguard off. can somebody who knows about this stuff help me?

I just did this a few days ago and had the same problem. I just hit the back one off near the sling with a hammer and slide it up and depressed the front one with a screw driver than pulled that little spring out. probably not a good way to do it but it worked.

Mine was a pain to get off the first time. I had to use a bar clamp to push down on the clip, then a wood block and a small hammer to tap the barrel band off.

Calm down and take a couple of deep breaths, your rifle will work just fine with a cracked handguard, even if its half falling off.

Yeah, build up can get it stuck. Heat it up with boiling hot water and then depress it.

Put the rear barrel band back in the installed position. Then follow figures 12 and 13 from Trap55's above post.

A quick-grip clamp to push the barrel band spring in far enough to disengage the locking pin. Then tap the front handguard off with a block of wood or a dowel and a small tack hammer or mallet.

Actually with the rear band out of place, there shouldn't be much if any spring tension on the clip.

I would try a brass punch on the pin that sticks through the forward barrel band, it may pop right out.

How did you manage to get the rear band off with the spring in place?

I depressed the rear part of the spring, slid right up. Now if I can get the front band off...

Did you un-screw the front band and slide it towards the front sight? Your pic shows it still on.
