I stopped going to Manteca as well because I hate running into "The Guy" as others have mentioned. One of the last times I was there I went on a slow day and me and a buddy were the only ones out there. He felt the need to stand behind me for over an hour to "make sure everything is safe." I've been the Manteca probably 3-4 dozen times before and never had a RO stand behind and hawk-eye me for over an hour. I guess the guy figured a couple guys in their 20's would screw up and he could jump on use for something? You'd think after him observing for that long he'd think you were safe and be on his way but he didn't leave so I packed up and left.

Last time I was there I brought a couple guests and the same guy had a short attitude at check-in which left a sour taste in my mouth.

In "the guy's" defense I'm sure he deals with a lot of idiots on a daily basis and it's very possible his abrasive attitude may have prevented an incident but plain and simple the guy rubs me the wrong way and I'll shoot somewhere else.

      Indoor rimfire shoot

Thought this might be a good place to post. Will also post in the Manteca Sportsmen club thread. A winter indoor 'rimfire only' shoot was approved by the board about a week and a half ago at my request. We will be shooting rifles on the indoor range which is at the main clubhouse. I will be running this event for roughly the next 8 weeks or until daylight savings kicks in. So I'll be the RSO. This will be running after the range is generally closed so the general staff will have gone home (or in the house next door).

Several people will be working on the "Light Rifle" award from the Winchester Shooting Program, some plan to practice offhand for high power, and a couple of people just plan on plinking to sharpen skills. Shooting in general over the winter is a good way to keep up skills and spend a little time with some fun company. Indoor range has 10 lanes so everyone can shoot. We may rotate if there is a lot of interest.

Location: Indoor range on other side of office.
      Time: Starts 6pm - 9pm Monday evenings
Cost: Free for members. $2 for non-members. Non-members will have to sign liability form before shooting, but regular $15 range fee is waived each evening you wish to attend. $2 basically pays for the electricity for fan and targets. I'll be taking money and handing out forms.

If you haven't been to the club in awhile, and/or just want to do a little informal shooting and have some fun over this winter, hope to see you there.

Try collecting cars. Even the lowly VW has gone through the roof. If it wasn't for the fact that I started early on, I wouldn't have didly. V dubs, AMXs and Tigers oh my. PAX

PS I did aeroplanes too, but quit once I lost my strip.

He does (as well as 3-4 other part time employees). And I expect him to be there for many more years. Those running the office generally stay inside (aren't on any of the actual ranges).

Thread is 3 years old. At this point the club is too busy for office staff to do more than monitor activity by camera as well as their other work. We have dedicated part time and full time paid/trained RSOs (along with occasional members) on the ranges.
